go to settings/ remove programs and you'll get a total storage memory available. I would think that would be 100,000k for example. Otherwise if its new you may have installed to many trial applications which need to be uninstalled
Thanks, but it only freed up a 1/2 megabyte. Time to call HP tech support. But at least you confirmed what I thought: Much more of that memory should be available!
Are you aware that the X button doesn't close programs, it just minimises them, so they are still running in the background.
If you have been opening a bunch of different programs and not actually closing them they will use up your memory.
Try doing a soft reset and then see what state your memory is in.

Yes, I new that. Uninstalled both Pocket War & Total Commander, but as mentioned that wasn't enough. Before contacting tech support, decided to perform a soft reset: Problem solved. Reinstalled Total Commander & memory levels are still fine.
Don't know the problem was; maybe it was the Pocket War installation program? IAC, I would like to appologize to the group: Should have thought about the reset. Plus, even it that fails, there is the 4-button reset which I didn't need to try.
You probably want to install something like the free MagicButton or vBar or the cost Spb PocketPlus or SBSH iLauncher to allow you to make that X into a real close.

How do you know if a program has actually been closed? In the Windows OSs, you can look at the Task Manager: Even if a process is not on task bar, it shows up there.

Some of the newer devices (HTC cell phones, for example) have vendor customization to change the X into a close. However, in standard WM, the X is a minimize, not a close. It was designed that way. Muppets.

My IPaq 211 has very little free memory. So little that the first game install, left almost no memory left.
Does 3 1/2 M of free memory sound correct? What is eating the rest? Is there a way to increase it?
No, that's not normal - especially if you haven't gone crazy installing stuff. I've installed quite a few things and my iPAQ 211 has 58.3 MB of storage (RAM) free out of the 165.55MB total.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest downloading a tool like MemMaid which can give you a breakdown of where your storage is being eaten up. Most likely its a few files that you chose to synchronize with the desktop, but the program will tell you for sure.

Memmaid looks interesting, but for now I know that a soft reset will clear up the problem. Plus Box mentioned how to find out which programs are still hanging around.
