Thank you for creating such a helpful site and some observations
First I want to thank the site developers for making a place that offers community, content and context for HP owners and users. I am finding that each PDA site has a different "flavor". Some are more helpful than others. Some are so partisian and aggressive that it can become a "battle ground" where the issues are lost in the venom and confrontation. I believe that a successful site i.e. one that is respectful and helpful has much to do with the how the site and threads are "monitered". I believe that all information wants to be "free" and that diversity is the stuff of creation. However, there are places in each site for each type of communication. I would suggest that issues that become very "hot" be threaded to a "hot button" area where the rules of engagement can include aggressive partisianship and less than calm communication. It then becomes a choice to enter and participate in that thread. I was severely brain injured two years ago and am struggling to regain my "place" in life. I have used PDA's in this process. It takes much for me to "play" on any field and some forums are less than sensitive. I believe that the sharing of observations, joy and pains of ownership, and collective wisdom makes for many possibilities. It is good to see this site grow and to be a part of a new beginning.
I have owned PDA's since the earlies Casio's, Sharps, Newtons, and Palms. Never met one that I didn't want to play with. I have owned all the various iderations of Palm and Sony and Handspring at one time. (Yes, its a little nutty, but I love the thought of holding a library, art gallery, and "link" to the ether literally in the palm of my hand.) I have owned some Pocket PC devices and never could really warm up to CE. My first device was a Casio CE clamshell then a 100, Axim, Toshiba, and HP. I now use a 3955 and just bought a 3975. I am finding them increasingly enjoyable and the whole platform is working better for me. I see a gradual convergence of OS 5 and 2002 and 3 in function and form. I would not be suprised to see a device running Palm PIM's and Windows multitasking and PIE.
I really liked the screen on the 3955. In fact I like it better than even the NZ, NX screens (my previous litmus test of quality). Even with the decreased resolution it is just lovely. In fact my pictures (low resolution ones shot with my Zire 71) read better on the 3955. With the purchase of the 3975 I feel I have gotten the "machine" in the CE department. I had owned for a brief period the 4155 and really liked it but the "yellow" tinge and "fidley" size finally conviced me that small and integrated is not better for me. I like the added power of a discrete wifi card, sleds, battery packs and large screen. I think the 3900 has the best of all screens. (I had a 5450 and it was less bright and responsive).
I believe that the 3900 form and expandability will be one that "stays" the course. I want a device that is not out dated in one production cycle. I can see the 3900 as being useful for years to come. I believe that the current trend in devices for small and "incorporated" will be rather self defeating. A screen must be large enough to use easily, power must be sustainable, build must be robust, and expansion an open venue.
Sorry about the length. But I must write when I have the cognition and energy. Once again thank you and the creators of the site and my fellow enthusiasts who share the "wonder" of it all.
My current set up is the 3975 in a Nexus dual CF sled with an Ambicom wifi in the side and a 256 CF in the top. The SD is a 256 and I am running 2002. I carry it in a Rinoskin canvas belt case. I have a nine volt charger for backup. It really works and is useable. If it only.....
