Backup/Restore --- grrr
For some reason my iPAQ 3955 turned itself on, drained the battery completely so when I got to the machine 3 days later it was totally dead and had wiped out everything.

OK...no problem I'll restore. But I had to set up a new connection and it would not read the old backup file. I found where it stores the file and moved it to the name of the new connection, but no dice. It says it was created for another machine.

I can easily restore all the appointments, contacts from my office computer, but there were many programs etc which I need and want. How do I?

Thanks.

Disconnect your iPaq from the PC, open ActiveSync and delete the new partnership (make sure the new one is selected. It should be if that's the last way you were connected. Also, if you moved the backup files rather than copying them, move them back before deleting the partnership). Do another hard reset and reconnect. When it asks if you want to create a standard or guest partnership, select guest. Then you can use the tools, Backup/restore function in AS to restore the original info. You'll be prompted to soft reset and reconnect the device and you should be back to where you were before the problem.

Still won't work
I have the same problem, only it didn't work for me. I still get a "backup not recognized" error. I looked to see if there even was a back up and can't find it. My profile is still there with all the information, but I can't remember even making a backup. Without having formally made a back up, is there a way to do this?
