SD Card 256 MB from third party is not recognised by iPAQ 3955 in spite of downloading the latest updates!
Can any one help?

I have a 3950 and originally had problems having the PPC recognize both my cf expansion pack and sd card. I wiped everything, did a hard reset and it recognized both now. Kind of a pain but it's working now. BTW, I have a Kingston SD Card.

I can agree with the above I have a 256 Cf sandisk and a 256 SD sandisk card.

I recently had to return my 3970 to HP (as a hardware button fell off....... to many games I guess!)

On the devices return, the gits had flashed the rom with the latest up dates. Erasing the database stored on the Ipaqfilestore and leaving the device unable to recognise my Sd card AND my CF cards.

I copied the entire contents of both on to my pc (via a usb card reader) then sslllooowwlllyyyyyy re-installed the software (after formating) and cut n paste any essential files (e.g. games saves :-) back on to my cards.

They both appear to work fine now.

I just got a ipaq 3970.
The SD Card will not format....the sd card is kingstone 256mb ive tried 2 different brands of card and still had no joy. It just does not recognise the card. You put the card in and it comes up do you want to format you go yes...then it through's a error up....help its driving me nuts......

I've had similar problems with my 3970. I have 3 SD cards - Simple, PQI and Viking, all 128 mb. They all worked fine until a few days ago. I 'cleaned' one - just by deleting files via Activesync - and have not been able to read or write to SD since. Each time I switch on I get a message asking if I want to format. If I click Yes I get an error message 31. Backing up and hard reset has made no difference. Scoured the web - apparently many similar problems but no solution.
Anyone able to help please?

scrub active sync off your pc and then reload it from your cd or the web.

I'm having lots of problems with my iPaq 3835 more specifically the san disk 256mb card. Lots of programs loaded that used to work now iPaq says these programs are not loaded. I will be reloading everything onto the CF card located on my expansion pack. I'll keep you pos ted!

I had similar problems with my 3950's 256MB SD card. All of a sudden, the iPaq would not recognise it. I reformatted the SD card, which worked. A MVP from another forum said that normally after a few soft resets AND removing the SD card a few times, the problem would go away. I did that once, after the problem happened again, and it's been hassle free for over a year now.

I loaded all programs to a Kinsington 256mb CF card and all works fine now. Another 128mb Sandisk still works without fail though.

need help!

i downloaded both SD card patches fr. hp website even though my SD can be seen by my iPaq, installed them anyway. Lo and behold, my iPaq can't see the SD card anymore!!!

i did hard reset and again, same results. plus now, i'm missing a lot of the default/original programs, including iPaq backup.

hope someone out there has the answer for me.

Have you another SD card you could try in the slot to determine whether it is thecard that is at issue or if there is a problem with the slot?

I don't understand how any of the programmes that are in the ROM (such as iPaq back-up) are not available as it impossible to delete files in ROM

Can you perform another hard reset, check all the programmes under the start menu (the location of the link may have changed as you may have moved it previously and it will return to the default location) and let us know what happens.

hi rob,

i know it's 'impossible' to delete programs in ROM but apparently, mine got deleted. i tried putting in another SD card but the same result. but when i slide in my portable innovation expansion slot (1 MemStick/1CF Card), both cards on this expansion were seen by my ipaq.

i did 3 hard resets already but to no avail, same results. also, when i do that align cursor thing, i can't do that cut & paste thing. i simply keep tapping on my anywhere and then, it goes to the Today screen.

It sounds as though you may have a corrupted ROM image - have you tried flashing it?
