Im new to game, but wouldnt a hard reset put it back to factory default.

That way you would not leave any info on it.

Better get 2nd opnion though.

there is a reset button at the bottom but it is only like emergency restart ifa program crashes and it closes all programs and makes it normal...

:/

so weird...ive checked out activesync and all and it has no options, and theres nothing in the memory options to format...

Hard reset is different than soft reset like you are describing.

The soft reset just reboots the OS. A hard reset wipes it out to ROM baseline.

Im not sure how to do a hard reset on your model though

If you have the manual PDF search for hard reset, or wait till some other members come online.

Full Erase iPAQ 395x
I know it's a bit late to reply, but you can fully erase an iPAQ 38xx/39xx by using the following finger-breaking combination. This is used normally when upgrading the firmware. MAKE SURE THE CRADLE AND POWER ADAPTER ARE FULLY WORKING BEFORE PROCEEDING! (don't mean to shout!!)
This is best done with the iPAQ lying flat on a table, near the edge (not too close!)

Hold the Stylus in one hand, then with the other hand Hold down the two outer buttons below the screen whilst holding down the On/Off button above the screen. (It can be done!)

Then hold in the reset button with the stylus until the Red and White screen disappears. It does fade away, the reason for this is that you have disconnected the iPAQ from the battery. Leave it away from the cradle for at least 1 full hour. You will then need the Cradle/Power Adapter to reconnect the battery.
Good Luck.

I am not agile enough to do this on my device, so I have installed DinarSoft's HandyMenu. it has an option to do a hard reset with just a few taps.

Quite right. A hard reset will not remove any files in the iPAQ File Store. So if you have any files there you will need to remove them.
