Ipaq 3970 and PocketPC 2003
Hi guys!

I have an ipaq 3970 w/bluetooth running linux and i want to install microsoft pocket pc 2003 and remove linux.
My problem is this:
1st: I dont know where to get PocketPC 2003 (like full version without paying)
2nd: I dont how to install it.

It has to be 2003 Version to work with a specific vnc application.

Can someone help me?

Well , from my experiences (limited as they are) you are going to have some issues trying to get the full version of 2003 without paying for it. On top of that - you will have to get 2003 from Compaq/HP that is specifically for your 3970 because of the required ROM update that it has to load to work (I found this out when upgrading a 3850 and recently read about this on the Microsoft website as well). I would suggest eBay for a cheaper version for your model - although the HP website is selling the upgrades for under $40 (I think).

Installing is not a huge deal - though somewhat time consuming. When you start the process it takes you through all the steps and there is some printed doc's that come with the disc to help you.

Hope this helps!

Try going here ... www.it-cq.com
to look for the ROM. It's in chinese, but if you use a translation program you can manage. You have to register to be able to download.

I upgraded the 3970 I have, it is a little corny to upgrade, but geez it seems so fast once you upgrade it! I swear it is faster than a 5455 I have and I can't figure it out! Did Compaq use a faster bus than hp on the 3970? Didn't the 3970 used to cost like $700 or something? For whatever reason I find the 3970 to be really high quality.
