ipaq 38xx: some buttons, USB, and reset blocked
Hello,

My IPAQ just had fallen out of the cradle on the floor during synchronization.

It doesn't seem to have any physical damages.

However now neither the reset button nor the contacts and the itask buttons are working any more. The other buttons (Power On/off, calendar, email) are working perfectly.

Also USB is not working any more. Infrared is still working. After doing a software reset, I get the error message "Failed to start background reading (status=5, error=-102,retCode=0) ..."

Personaly I believe that some internal driver for these functions got into a wrong state. However I cannot do any hard reset, because the reset button does not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Michael

Same problem here
Hey I have the same problem. It only started after the ipaq slipped out of my hands and hit the ground. Now I get the same exact error message you do.

I can no longer use the fingerprint reader and also the calendar button doesn't work. I've tried a normal reset, but that hasn't worked. I've tried doing a hard reset, but the calendar button needs to be working to do a hard reset. So I haven't been able to complete a hard reset.

Anyone have any suggestions on fixes???

jrs163@yahoo.com - please let me know, I would appreciate it!

Joe

You could try removing the unit from ac power and pulling the battery. Let it sit overnight and completely drain, and this should force a hard reset.

Let us know how you make out.
