PCMCIA Wireless card for PPC 2003
Greetings,

I have a iPAQ 3870 which originally had PPC 2002 installed. I own a PCMCIA jacket which I used my 3Com® 11 Mbps Wireless LAN PC Card with XJACK Antenna (3CRWE62092A). This worked fine with the drivers supplied by 3COM.

I have upgraded my ROM to PPC 2003 and found the Wireless card no longer works and there are no updates made by 3COM for PPC 2003.

I am struggling to find on the internet a new PCMCIA Wireless card that (preferring a card that supports 802.11g, but if its only b, then that's fine) that will work on an iPAQ running PPC 2003.

Alternatively, has anyone else got thier 3COM card working in PPC2003?

I don't want to purchase a SD Wireless card as I use the SD slot a lot for my 512mb card.

Thanks in advance,
Paul.

Will you be running any specific wireless apps? Such as ministumbler or WiFiFoFUm.

I find it easier to see what apps you want to use before choosing the card, since many apps require a specific card/chipset.

If you just want email and surfing, I would just go with what ever is cheapest and suppports 2003. (Check the website of what ever card maker for drivers first.)

IF you want a specific wireless app...let us know and we can tell you what chipsets will work.

I use to use the 3COM Wireless B and G card and I just downloaded the drivers for the PPC Linksys Compact Flash Wireless card. I believe the product number is WCF12 so you can do a search for that number.

Generally it will be for Email and Surfing, however, there is a requirement to use mini-stumbler as part of my job.

I am really after a PCMCIA card and not a CF or SD one. I am after any feedback from anyone who has tried and tested a PCMCIA wi-fi card with PPC 2003.

Thanks...

Linksys Wireless WPC55AG (A and G) and 3870 iPaq
I am trying to get my wireless G card to work with the expansion jacket and Windows Mobile 2002, but not having any luck. Its a PCMCIA card, and not a compact flash. The card works in my laptop, but the card doesnt even show power applied (lights on the card flashing) when its in my 3870. Trying to get some answers from Linksys, but nothing yet. I may get a CF card just to get this thing to work properly.

I believe someone told me it has to do with power requirements of the card, and the Ipaq not providing enough. I don't know if that's true or not, but I can't remember anyone telling me they got a pcmcia wireless card to work. I could, of course, be completly wrong, too......... If I am, I'm sure one of the better minds here will let me know.

Has anyone got an answer to this one yet?
Hey hey - stumbled across this post while looking for an answer to this question. I've got an older iPAQ 3850 with the PCMCIA sleeve. I've got a Linksys WPC55AG b/g card that I want to use with it.

In terms of what I plan to do with it:
MSN locally on my own LAN
"Warwalking" and WiFi stumbling

That's about it. I've been waiting for about 3 hours to talk to someone from Linksys but I don't think that they're going to be much help either.

I don't know what else I can do with this old PDA, so I figured I'd try to make it a coffee table accessory (remote control, MSN, etc).
