H3835 getting really hot while charging..
My mother picked up a used 3835 off ebay. I went over her house the other day,a nd it was charging. I picked it up and noticed it was REALLY warm, almost hot.. I'd say it was a good 85°f..

I used to have a 3835 and I knwo it never got that hot.. And I also know from radio control toys experience that heat & lithium batteries are not a good combination! I don't want any fires in my parents house!

Is this a known problem? Anyone else's get hot?

Thanks
Jeff

Are you charging with the factory AC adapter that goes with the unit?

It's charging through the cradle, but it's not the same cradle that I had with my 3835.. It's a little different in that it kinda swivels, and has a short like 4" wire with a female jack to plug the power into.. Weird.

The one I had was the cradle with the wire going to the USB/serial, and then to charge you'd plug the charge power into the base of the cradle, or slip the other connector on and charge the ipaq right into the bottom.

So is there AC to go into the cradle that she is using? If not then the cradle may support charging from the USB port which is possible. However in my experience of USB charging your battery will get warm. Charging from the USB port is not the same as charging from the USB port. Same thing happens for me. When I use my travel sync cable with my laptop my battery will get warm. It does not do that when I am at home and use my cradle which has the AC adapter plugged into it.

yeah, AC going into the cradle. Hasn't tried charging via USB, didn't even know you can do that..

I'm just nervous that the battery will explode. I told her to only charge it when she needs it, and don't leave it unattended.

Maybe I'll try getting her a new charger.

I would recommend getting the OEM cradle for her device if you can.
