PCMCIA WiFi card problems with H3650
I'm trying to get an Orinoco Gold PC card to work with my 3650 running Windows CE 3.0 using the dual slot PCMCIA expansion pack. I've tried the drivers from Proxim, HP & some other source recommended in another forum, but none of them work. It seems as if I can get the driver to load when I enter the correct DLL name when the message box asking me to enter the name of the "unrecognized card" comes up (WLLUC46.DLL for the Proxim drivers), but the Orinoco client reports "driver not loaded". I also note that I never get any lights from the card.

Is this a combo that is known to work, or am I trying to do the impossible? I've seen a couple of posts hinting that some PCMCIA cards require too much power from the expansion pack. I have the manual for the expansion pack but there are no specs listed nor can I find any useful specs on it anywhere on the net. Thanks.

Bob1 - Heres a link to Chris Deherrera's CEwindows site LAN card compatibility chart with related driver links - don't know if you have already checked it out.
http://www.cewindows.net/peripherals...irelesslan.htm

Do you know if the card is 16-bit PCMCIA or 24-bit Cardbus architecture? If it's a 24-bit card you won't be able to use it with a PPC.

Bob1 - I did a little more research on your problem and it appears that your card is 24-bit Cardbus architecture, you may want to check out some of the other cards on the link in my previous post. Sorry for the bad news Welcome to the site.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I'm still a bit confused though because the link you posted lists the "Orinoco/Lucent Wavelan" card as being compatible with the iPAQ. In pawing through the eBay listings for this card I found the model # for it: PC24E-H-FC. What's interesting is that my card has the exact same model #. So now I'm wondering is there's some subtle difference between the Orinoco Wavelan & Gold cards, or is the listing at http://www.cewindows.net/peripherals...irelesslan.htm not entirely accurate?

I do see that the back of my card has a list of voltages (3.3 & 5 V) plus "16" & "32"; 5 V & "16" are checked. Could this mean that the card is actually 16 bit?

You may have to dig a little deeper with Orinoco on that - I know that some cards have come out in different revisions; as an example awhile back I was trying to get a D-Link card that was listed on Chris's chart as being compatible to work with my old Ipaq 3765. Long story short, I had the 4th revision of the card and only the first two revisions were compatible as the architecture was changed even though the model number was the same. The different versions of the card were indicated by a letter on the back, I don't know whether Orinoco uses the same type of coding to differentiate between revisions - you may have to e-mail them with all the info on the reverse of the card to find out if it is an architecture issue. Let me know how you get on with your problem.

P.S.- I tried to find the link refering to the 24-bit issue but I can't seem to remember the exact search terms I used in Google. If I find the site I saw the info on I'll post it in this thread.

The wifi card I have says "Agere Systems PC24E-H-FC", "T/N 2AS04221" & "P/N 014916/F". There are several other numbers on the card as well & even some chinese, but no obvious revision code.

Good news is that this card is borrowed, so I've yet to buy something that will work with Netstumbler & Ministumbler in both my laptop & 3650. Any thoughts as to which card in the list is "safest" (most likely to work regardless of revision, etc.)? I do need something with an external antenna connector, preferably MC.

I just received my Lucent Wavelan card to try with my H3650, & lo & behold it doesn't work. Same symptoms as the Orinoco Gold: no lights on card, 3650 recognizes driver but client manager says "driver not loaded".

These PDAs sure are hit & miss compared to PCs when it comes to hardware compatibility.

I think I've run out of things to try - the combo simply doesn't work. Guess I'll e-mail Chris over at CEWindows.net & let him know the Lucent Wavelan cards don't work with the H3650 & dual expansion pack. Thanks for your help.
