I upgraded to 2003 on an i paq 3835

then as i was sell the ipaq i returned it to original rom
to cleal everything
but the rom would not install
error wrong type appeared
so i followed your instructions to hex edit
this worked and am back to 2002 rom

but now the asset# and tag are empty
and can not updrade or download any rom
except the 2002 hexed version

the friend i sold it would like to upgrade to 2003 now
and says it wont upgrade

i wish i had left 2003 on it

anybody got any ideas what to do

I made the mistake of installing the Opie distro of Linux on my 3835. Is there any chance that this process would restore my ipaq back to windows CE? Thanks for suggestions.

Just one question - the descriptions I have read (old) say that one of the benefits of 2003 is better Bluetooth?

this helped me recover a friends 3850 top class dudes i hope you can help me in the future an i will help you with my experiences, i will add that if it fades down after disconnecting from cradle leave it 60 seconds and place back in cradle as this worked for me after 2 days of trying

Hmmm would it have not been a more simple solution to buy a BT SD card which has 2003 support?

i haven't had any trouble running my bluetooth on my 3870 when i upped it to 2003 but i found a downgrade program for another ipaq and it won't work in engineering mode its also for a different model of ipaq which may be the problem you are running into
