3xxx WiFi enquiry
hi, just bought my 3660, i read in an earlier post something about a wifi sleve and CF adaptor, what is a "sleve" for and is it essential to use wifi, also, if it is essential, would any wifi card work with this sleve?

Thank you for your help.

Search ebay for ipaq sleeve or ipaq expansion and you will find the sleeves that we all talk about.

Bascially, the sleeve gives you 1 or more cf and/or pcmcia slots that then allow you to put a cf or pcmcia wireless cards into (I personally use a Sandisk CF wireless card with 128 megs built into it).

Thats how you can then get online wirelessly.

All the 3xxx series can use the expansion sleeves (I'm pretty sure about that). My coworker has a 3630 which we tested with my sleeve (that I got for my 3850) and it works great.

aah, ebay wont work on my computer at the moment, how much do you think a CF wireless card and sleve will set me back? and is it just plug and go, so once you have installed your card and stuff, can you just get surfing, or do you need to enter your Router/internet settings, or does it automatically detect them?

Thank you for your helpful and quick response, sorry for being a bit nooby!

also, i can see a PCMCIA adaptor (sleeve), i have many PCMCIA wireless cards (dont think they said they support ipaqs, or and pocket pc for that matter) would a pcmcia adaptor enable me to surf directly from my wireless router?

Well the pcmcia sleeves are a bit bulkier and clunkier than the cf sleeves but they should work with popular wireless cards such most of the popular brands.

I paid a bit more for my dual cf sleeve because I bought it new at COmpusa about a month ago for 39 dollars (dual cf slot card, a memplug). I bought the wireless card on ebay for around 25 dollars (sandisk cf combo card, 80211b and 128meg memroy card in one).

The card is pretty easy to use, just like wireless on anything, you set it to the proper settigs which depend on your network, (i.e. wep settings, mac filtering, dhcp or static ips, etc.) So if you have a simple wireless network, it should be just as easy as setting up a laptop.

cool, thank you, sorry for all of my silly enquiries, but i have just bought this ipaq as an upgrade from my Sony clie N770C, so you must understand that this item is VERY different and has far more features. If anyone could give me an answer to my Infra-red thread, i would really appreciate it.
