3950 won't power off
Hi Julie, folks.
I had some issues with my ipaq as noted in several other posts. I finally got WM 2003 installed, now I've just noticed that my 3950 will not power off. When I press the power button, it goes in to some sort of sleep mode where the screen dims, but will not turn off, nor will it respond to anything, not even the power button. I have to do a soft reset, then it powers up in safe mode and then switches to normal mode. I have to soft reset every time I want to use my pda. Since it does not shut off, I've had it plugged in continuously, which I do not want to do. HELP ![]()

With WM2003 a short press of the power button turns your device off. Pressing and holding the power button turns your screen off. That safe-mode start has to be from a third party program. If you're using SPB Pocket Plus you can turn that off by holding your stylus down on the upper right corner, clicking options then unchecking the Safe mode box.

Hi again.
Got it out of safe mode boot up, but it still will not power off unless the battery dies, nor will it power on again unless I depress the soft reset button. Funny thing is when it goes into that dimmed screen of sleep mode, the charging light still flashes that it is charging even after i disconnect the ac power. I am also showing a 1/2 inch dead pixel area right were the Start icon is. This dead pixel area is not present when I open an applcation thank goodness. Any more suggestions about the power button issue? Seen screen shot.

I found a user with the same issue back in 2002 in the PDA Street Archives. He had installed incompatible software and his device was exhibting the same symptoms yours is. It looks like a hard-reset solved the problem. Are you ready to do the button dance?
