How do I get wireless?
I've got this old 3955 which I upgraded to 2003. Everything works fine but will someone list for me every single thing I need to get online? I just want to tap into wireless hotspots with this thing not my home system, work system, etc. I'm just not clear on how to do that. Mind you, you will be responding to someone who doesn't get it all (apparently) and will need to be guided. Can I just put a card in the slot on top and, if so, what is the best kind? Or do I need to use an expansion pack and, if so, what kind? Thanking you in advance.

From what I can tell from the specs, the 3955 doesn't support wifi out of the box. However, it does have an SD slot, which means you can get an SD wifi card. Before you do that, however, you need to make sure the operating system is 2003 (instead of 2002), which means you might have to update the ROM first. See these threads for details:

Also see Ike's very useful tutorial on wifi:

It was written for Axims, but still contains a lot of useful general info.

I have done the upgrade to 2003 without problem and all is working fine. I have an Ambicom SD 802.11b card. I have pushed that into the top slot. Nada. Does that mean the card is kaput or the PDA doesn't have something needed to make a connection? Before I upgraded to 2003 I had something called "HP client" on the PDA. When I hit it bars would appear on the lower right hand side. When I hit them it would say I wasn't connecting. When I upgrade to 2003 the HP client thing was gone, never to return. I am at a loss here. Thanks for any suggestions.

It sounds like you did not install any drivers for the card. These would be on the CD that comes with the card or can be found on Ambicom's website. Generally they are installed by running the program on a PC while connected via ActiveSync.

I uninstalled/reinstalled the driver for the card. One change upon doing that. Before I did this there was always an X in the top right hand corner of the PDA and if I hit it there would be a dialog box saying I wasn't connected and needed to set up my connections. Since I only wanted to catch the internet at free wifi spots there was nothing to set up. The X is gone now that I have reinstalled. I guess that is a start, right, even though I am picking up nothing?
