H3835 Symbol24 CF wireless

I'm new to PDA's and recently bought this Ipaq h3850 on Ebay. I upgraded to ROM 2.00 so as to be able to read an SD card. That worked then my Symbol24 CF wireless card arrived in the mail. After many attempts to get the h3850 to recognize the NIC, using Perfect Prism 1.0, Symbol drivers 3.9.2.-67 and Spectrum24v3.9.2-67 from Microsoft, I gave up and downgraded to ROM 1.15.04. This has Windows CE 3.0. The downgrade worked but the wireless card installation still fails.

Is it even possible to get this Symbol24 card to be recognized? I'm using a Nexipak Expansion Sleeve.

Files seem to be installed in directories that aren't searched. I'm using Activesync 3.8.0 on WinXP. I can transfer CAB files just fine and sync runs smoothly.

I'm a bit hesitant about reflashing the Ipaq ROM repeatedly since bricking a Nokia N770 with a screen driver failure.

Advice would be appreciated.

Okay then. Has anyone successfully used one of the SD 802.11b or g cards with a 3800 or 3900 series Ipaq? If so which one? Thanks.

Hmm Keeping America working

So, I contact Motorola and ask for advice on how to get the Symbol24 CF wireless card (LA-4137), in an Ipaq 3850 expansion sleeve, working. I gave him ROM revision data (1.15), described what operating system (XP), which version of Activesync (3.8), and Ipaq operating system (Windows CE 3.00). Here's his reply (and this is a quote):

William,

I am emailing you in regards to the support case referenced above. Unfortunately the LA4137 is not supported when installed into an SD slot using an SD to CF converter needed for the IPAQ H3850. I have provided a link to the firmware download to install the drivers onto your mobile unit through active sync but since the SD slot does not provide enough power for CF Wlan radios it will be able to install the drivers but not initiate cards functions.

Spectrum 24 DS Wireless Network Adapter v3.9.2-67 Driver, Firmware, Utility

If you would like to discuss the issue further please do not hesitate to contact the support center at 1-800-653-5350 and we will be more then happy to assist you further. At this time I will be closing your case but please feel free to reference the case number if you do need further support on the issue.

Thank you,

===============================================

The case number is: Case 1906117 - LA4137 NOT RECOGNIZED

He apparently did not understand my question or is deliberately spouting wrong information, e.g. SD card Spectrun24 not CF Spectrum24. The link he provided me, to the v3.9.2-67 Driver, Firmware, Utility, I already had and wouldn't get the card up. I had described in the webpage mail that the drivers I had previously downloaded were not recognizing the card and the files were not installed such that the Windows CE could find same.

America hard at work.

Usedipaq clued me in. The H3850 is a PPC2002 regardless if the ROM is 1.15 or 2.00, it having Windows CE 3.00 not withstanding. With drivers appropriate for PPC2002 WiFi is up.

Bill, first let me say I'm sorry you didn't get any help here (or even any responses). I didn't have any knowledge of the iPaq h3000 series and didn't have time to research them to know what having ROM 2.00 meant in terms of Windows Mobile. If I'd noticed the reference to WinCE 3.0, I could have told you that is equivalent to PPC02 (aka WM02).

I'm glad you got help at the iPaq site and thanks for keeping the forums informed.
