Win Mobile 2003 for IPAQ 3970

A few years ago I purchased Mobile 2003 for my IPAQ 3950. I'm trying to use that same CD to install 2003 on a used 3970 running 2002 with ROM version 2.1. The last dialog box in the install chain says that 2.1 is not a recognized ROM version for the IPAQ 3970 and can't be upgraded to 3.0 in Mobile 2003. What on earth did I do wrong? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

Just taking a guess - I believe the OS upgrade discs are device specific.

Lance - Check the disc and see if it is labeled as being for the Ipaq 3950, if so I think that is the problem.

Also a mod should move this thread to the proper sub-forum "Older Model Ipaq's>3xxx series" there might be someone there who has encountered the same problem.

The upgrade disks are typically model specific as mentioned above.
I have a 37xx series upgrade disk that I've used with a 3760 as well as on a 3765 and it worked fine, but those two models are identical other than the model number.

There are hardware differences between the 3950 and the 3970, therefore you will not be able to use the upgrade disk for the 3970.
