Thank god I didnt pay for this

I was given a 3950 from my work,it was gonna get recycled so they said I could have it. It works, sort of. As long as its in the cradle it works. Any attempt at updates and it says the AC power is not connected(when it is) USB conntects and the same for the 9pin. I have tried several cradles and its the same thing. And it wont even charge the darn thing. No matter what I do.
Is this thing junk? or can it be fix? is it worth it?

Two things.

When they get fully discharged you need to let it stay in the cradle for some time until the battery reach a certain minimum level. Then you need to do a soft reset, and start charging for real.

The other possibility would be a 100% gone battery.

Look at the FAQ here for more info regarding the uncharged battery problem, and how to install a new battery:

It spent all weekend in the cradle, the minute I pull it out its dead, and when I plug it back in it basicly resets and all save data erased. I cant even reset on my own.

Gone, baby, gone. Your battery is gone. Li-ion batteries have a mechanism built in wherein, if they are fully discharged, they will never charge again. That's for safety: they could explode if recharged after complete discharge.

Good news! Now, enjoy your new toy! Look on Mobilitysite.com and Aximsite.com, as well, for ideas about what software to run and accessories to buy.
