3630 & navman probs

Ok Guys ...I'm what my son calls "the older generation" Some things I CAN find my way around, Car engines Fish Tanks Gas central heating Ect

Ipaq's ...........Oh Noooooooo!!!!!!!.......

I have been given a 3630 with a navman sleeve the Ipaq has Navman software in it i.e. it tells me i'm here!!! (Lat/Long Ect)

I have Tomtom 5 on a SD card ........Now, I go & buy a CF/SD adaptor & plug it in to the Navman sleeve .........(this is where everything goes tits up)

by MY way of thinking the ipaq/navman reads the sd card & hey presto I'm up & running ................NOPE ...sweet FA happens nowt nothing

So Questions.....

1. what am I doin wrong

2. how do I fix it

3. what am I missing......

OK so about now several million people are fallin off their chairs in hoots of laughter shoutin "WHAT A MUPPETT" ........
Thats really OK with me ........By my way of thinking "If you don't ask questions you'll never learn anything"

So if yer want yer black & white telly fixin or yer valves replacin in yer stereo-gram I'M YER MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Regards

Keith

I'm an old man too (if we were living near each other you may have fixed my son's old Technics amplifier:) )

What I guess is this:

1. The Navman sleeve has it's own programs/maps; and is not compatible with TomTom. (I'm the first non-craftsman son of a long line, and they started by first saying this is impossible.)

2. The problem is in how TomTom recognizes the GPS (the Navman). I use a Bluetooth GPS, and what I have to do is tap the middle of the TomTom screen -> tap Change preferences (lower left corner) -> tap right arrow (lower right corner) twice, and there you will find something like "Show GPS status".

Tap that, and then Configure. Try the different alternatives ;-) It might work.

the navman sleeve will work with other gps softwares out there, including tomom. i use a 3965 with a navman and tomtom 6.

youll need the driver for the navman which you can find on the net, or it should have been installed with the navman software. otherwise the device wont know what to make of the device.

tomtom should be installed normally. you should select other gps device and set up tomtom to look at com7 and select 57000 baud (i think... im just going on memory right now, but ill verify the settings later). this should get you some sat connectivity and you should be ready to go.

let me know how youve made out. does your device have an sd slot? ive not used the cf slot on the navman so i cant recreate any issues your dealing with in that regard...

Ok well thanks for your replies guys but................................

Well heres a step by step guide to how far I've got..........

1. slide ipaq 3630 into sleeve

2.ipaq recognises sleeve

3. tap "GPS INFO" on screen & I get my position in Lat/Long + number of Sats I (IT) can see

4. put SD card (Containing Tomtom 5) into CF adaptor

5. put cf adaptor into navman sleeve

6. NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!...it's like the SD card aint there at all!!!!

7. At the top of the screen it says "GPS COM4 (57600) I have the feeling that this is wrong but I don't know how to change it

NOTE* As there is no SD/CF slot in the 3630 I cannot put it anywhere else!!
