Survey on iPAQ 4150/5 battery time
I am still waiting delivery of my iPAQ H4155 to arrive. Meanwhile I am just wondering if lucky users of this beauty can post their typical battery usage time in hours?

Please post if you are using the default battery (1000mAh) or the extended battery (1800mAh)

Thanks
JY

I get anywhere from 3 - 3.5 hours. I am usingthe standard battery, but I also use the wireless feature a LOT. Bluetooth is usually off.

I'm also getting around 3 to 3.5 hours on mine. The 802.11b is almost always on. When I'm using it in the car I have wireless off and Bluetooth on (to a GPS) an still get around 3 to 3.5 hours a charge.

I'm getting about 4 hours with WiFi on. Standard Battery.

-Bluetooth is off.

-Recieve all incoming beams (Irda) is set off (IMO this should be off by default)

-Backlight is set to lowest 'on' setting, with timeout at 1 min.

Has anyone noticed a difference in battery life with WiFi on and scanning as opposed to Wifi on and associated with a network? (eg, if you are 'war walking')

There also may be some savings with the volume level... There's *3* ways to adjust volume:

MASTER VOLUME -- the tried and true way, carried over from 2002
HEADPHONE VOLUME -- a subset of the above
PROGRAM VOLUME -- separate of the above two, if the program has a volume slider of it's own.

The reason I mention this is that if you have the Master volume set low but the Headphone volume maxed out the headphones may be drawing more current than if you had the headphone slider set low and the Master volume set a little higher. Just a thought.

With the iPAQ 3635 I was using the Holux GM-270 CompactFlash GPS with good results. When I got the iPAQ 4150 I ordered a Teletype Bluetooth GPS and I've been happy with it. It uses 3 AAA-NiMH batterys that can be easily changed. You can use regular Alkaline batteries in a pinch. So far I'm happy with the GPS. I ordered it for $199 shippped directly from Teletype.

I'm also at 3.5-4 hours, mostly with wi-fi on.

Quick observation though.. IF we assume a linear relationship, and for ease of calculations... 1000mAh = 3 hours ( 333mAh/hour) then the 1800mAh extended battery should be good for 5.4 hours or so...call it 5 hours 24 minutes. Course, the HP website ALSO shows a MONSTER 3600mAh battery for the 41xx line as well, but I think it's really for other units--the design looks as though it wouldn't fit the 41xx. but think of it.. 3600 or darn near 11 hours. (10:48 and change)

For a road trip, or extended wifi session, etc, what a deal that would be! Anyone else see that 3600mAh battery? Anyone ordered up the 1800?

I do like your way of thinking, and the relationship between amps and hours. In theory this seems to be quite feasible, but must depend on what application your are running, I will carry out my own tests, and post the results, when I get my New H4150 at Christmas. The extended battery can be found at www.hp.com/go/ipaqoptions
the 3,600 mAh if for the h4300 series, while the 1,800 mAh will fit the h4150, and will make the unit heavier.

yeah, I'm thinking "typical use" scenarios, and made a few assumptions--that the power drain is perfectly linear vs time, etc. Still though, we're in the ball park.

The place where I was seeing the 3600mAh battery for 41xx was here: HP 4100 Series accessories

It's pretty clearly marked as a 4100 series page ( not even 4xxx) so the implication is that the 3600mAh battery works with the 4150/55. I have my doubts. I believe I read somewhere that the 1800mAh battery comes with a replacement battery cover, and does add a few millimeters to the unit width. That's borne out a bit with my HP iPAQ mini keyboard--a second adapter comes with it that's labeled "4100 Ext Bat" allows for a bit more room, especially towards the bottom of the unit. I just don't see how the 3600 unit would fit, so for now, I'll assume it's a misprint Oh well. I'd be willing to trade off some weight and size for the option of extended use during those times I need it, but otherwise, the STD battery holds me for a workday.

edit: fat fingered the URL.

I'm also averaging around three-hours of continuous WiFi use.

That's definitely an error at HPShopping.com. Users at Brighthand and Pocket PC Thoughts have confirmed it (they bought it thinking it would fit).

The 1800 mAH battery does include a new cover since the pack bulges out quite a bit from the back.
