Is there a consensus on whether a modem, ethernet card, and other similar capabilities will become available in the SDIO card format. The Wifi is great, but to be a true laptop replacement for travel I think at a minimum the 56k modem would be nice without having to go with an external BT modem box at $150.00. Any information or opinions would be appreciated.

I don't think so. I can't see a SD card taking a RJ11 (modem) or RJ45 (ethernet) connection on the card. It would be too awkward. Unless someone goes the dongle approach. However, I just can't really see the possibility of a SD Modem or Ethernet card.
