mp3 player
i am new to iPAQ (former "Palm person) and having trouble using the mp3 player in my new h4155. i've downloaded windows media player 9 to my desktop and now what do i do??? if someone could walk me through the steps to move my music to my iPAQ i would GREATLY appreciate it!!! also, any suggestions on WHERE to get my mp3's? i was a member of Kazaa once but contracted a virus there so...although that experience has me running NORTON AV on my desktop AND NORTON AV for Handhelds on my iPAQ. i've looked at Diet Kazza and Kazza Lite (note the different spelling!) but i'm open...
THANKS!

You must transfer your MP3's from your desktop to your PPC. There are many ways to do this. The best method of transferring files would be to use a card reader on your desktop. The transfer is much faster than using the transfer method via activesync. You can also transfer files via either WiFi or Bluetooth. The simplest and fastest way is a card reader.

I cannot help out that much with finding MP3's the illegal way (via Kazaa or other P2P clients) but there are ways to get MP3's legally. Certainly there is iTunes and other site on that scale. You can also use freeware software packages out there to rip songs off of CD's that you own to make MP3's.

You can get a card reader that attaches to your desktop via USB. You can pick one up just about anywere. For example, I have a 6-in-1 card reader on my desktop. Once I connect it to my desktop, the card reader will appear to be a regular hard drive on your desktop. Then you can use Windows Explorer on your desktop to copy your MP3's from your desktop harddrive and copy them to the drive letter assigned to the card reader. This will copy the files from your desktop to your memory card. Once the copy is finished, simply remove the card from the card reader and pop it into your pocket pc and voila, your MP3's are now on your PPC. This is the fastest method.

If you want to use the activesync method (which is much slower), then you would simply put your pocket pc in the cradle. Once activesync initiates on your desktop, let it finish syncing. Once complete. Goto activesync on your desktop PC, click Explore Button -> My Pocket PC -> SD Card. You will notice that when you open Explore, it is basically Windows Explorer but you are browing the Pocket PC. From there, just simply copy your MP3's from your desktop folder and copy them into the SD Card folder on your Pocket PC.

Basically everything here is just knowing how to copy and paste using your desktop PC.

Hope that helps. Also, try to refrain from using Caps. It would appear to some people that you are yelling.

Hi Ted, thanks for your quick response and thanks for the "warning" about using caps!!! i assure you i was not yelling at you (i had heard that before about using caps in e-mail) again sorry! i was using caps because i feel this is simple and something i should know how to do, but can't!!!! i will probably take your advice and pick up a card reader tonight, like you said that appears to be the easiest and fastest way to accomplish my goals. i got rid of my mp3 player in anticipation of using my iPAQ and have had 0 success so far...your advice will be a BIG HELP (not yelling), i just so happy to be making progress with my h4155 finally! thanks again and i'll be in touch to let you know how it works out!

If you plan to put alot of MP3's on your SD Card, I would recommend using a 512MB card if you have one. MP3s are usually around 1MB per minute audio at normal compression. You can fill up your card fast with just a handful of MP3s. You can find some 512MB SD cards on sale if you don't have one. Otherwise, I would recommend using OGG Vorbis format which gives you better compression allowing you to fit more songs on your SD card. If that is something that you want to look at, you could use dbPowerAMP. This will convert WAV, WMP, MP3 and OGG.

dbPowerAMP Music Converter

Sweet. Your Dazzle reader/writer will make transferring files to and from your PPC alot more enjoyable.
