4155 Ir
I don't currently own an Ipaq 4155 but have a question concerning the IR. I have read that the 4155's IR is not as powerful as some other Ipaqs, but is it sufficient for short distances like syncing with a laptop? Does anyone currently synch via this manner? Thanks.

I have the ipaq H5555 it does have one of the weaker IR and I do sync with it. It is slower than via cable or wifi but it works without any problems

I know the 2210 and I believe the previous generation 5400 series has/had consumer IR and none of the newer models do(4100/4300). Another downside is that the 4100 IR port is in a strange place, I believe on the bottom left hand side of the unit.

Anyone know the difference in range between CIR and IR on the newer ipaq's???

That looks about right. I can get about 18ft on my 2215.

That's a bummer that they don't have CIR on all of the newer devices. Imean how much of a price difference can that be?? Why take a step back with a new device?? You have BT/WIFI/Keyboards and than they drop the CIR??? Since CIR has a much better range is it a battery killer???

I have the iPAQ 2210. The infrared range is FANTASTIC! I could control a TV as a SonyStyle store from down a hall (line-of-sight though). I haven't tried syncing with IR.

The consumer IR is what is used in the remote controls. IrDA is what is used in computer/data communications. I don't think the range from a computer would be very long.

Any of the IRs on the iPAQs can be used for ActiveSync.

I believe the reason is due to what HP considers a professional PPC versus a consumer PPC. The newer PPCs that just came out were targeted for mobile professionals even though alot of consumers are getting the 4150 and the 4355. I think that HP's view of the 2215 was different.

I don't know why though. The 2210 was one of the biggest advancements HP made with the iPAQ, bring out an iPAQ with both SD and CF and Bluetooth.

Although I am only 14 and own one, they still seem to be a business handheld.

Thanks for everyone's input. It sounds like synching via Ir will not be an issue on the 4155.
