I also have a 6310i (still the absolute best mobile phone around in my opinion -- but you can not get them anymore in Australia!) - and use it for GPRS access from my 4150 using Vodafone Australia.
I had no instructions on how to do this at all - so called Vodafone Australia. They put me through to "Data Support" and a nice chap there asked what my PDA was and what the mobile was and said:
"OK, no problem matey - this is what you are gonna have to do"
The first thing that happened is that he sent me a "Service SMS" message - which arrived instantly. This was a special SMS message that told my 6310i about the Vodafone Australia GPRS service. I only had to hit [save] and the job was done.
It effectively created a "GPRS Active Service Setting" called Vodafone AU . If I [edit] that service, then I can see a homepage set to
http://live.vodafone.com, Session mode is set to Permanent, Connection Security is Off, Data Bearer is GPRS, GPRS Connection is set to When Needed, GPRS Access Point is set to live.vodafone.com, IP Address is set to: 10.202.2.60, Authentication type is set to Normal, Login Type is Automatic, Username and password are both blank.
Of course some of these settings will vary for your service provider - but maybe it provides you with some clues... especially the thought that your provider may simply SMS you the GPRS Service settings in one easy move.
Settings at the 4150 are equally crucial:
The number to dial is set to: *99#
Baud Rate is set to: 57600
Extra dial-string modem commands are:
+cgdcont=1,"IP","vfinternet.au"
...and that's it! Please note that there should not be an AT in the front of the extra dial-string commands.
I used to use the 6310i for GPRS with my Psion Series 5 (until it sadly and unexpectantly hit concrete one day!) - and when used with my psion I *did* need the AT command, but this didn't work on the 4150. The nice chap at Vodafone knew about this and told me to drop the AT.
When I "connect" - the phone of course displays a message about a BT connetion having been established, and then approx 5 seconds later another message pops up saying "Establishing GPRS connection", and 2 seconds later a "G" symbol appears on the mobile phone.
Good luck!
Please let us know how you get on.
