My Ipaq is no longer perfect :<
I have had my Ipaq 4155 for 2 months now and it has received very little use and has been very well taken care of. I didn't buy a case because I was to receive one for free from CompUSA included with their 2 year TAP plan. Well, the case still isn't here and the HP slip case...well...slipped. The Ipaq hit the black top and now has cosmetic damage. Its not very noticeable, just VERY annoying! CompUSA says they will replace it using the TAP plan if I would like, however, I would receive a refurbished unit in return and would need to buy another TAP plan since this is a ONE time replacement only. I think I will just wait for it to actually be broken...maybe it will happen when the VGA models come out :>. And no, I won't break it on purpose.

Don't be too quick to discount refurbs. I have a refurb 2215 & 4155. There is/was not a mark on either one. Except for the box (plain brown wrapper) there was no difference from new units. They have the same 1 yr. warranty as new ones. I doubt I will ever buy a new unit again. BIG savings on refurbs, enough that I don't even care about a replacement (carepaq?) plan.

My point is this-the warranty cost $100. Why should I use it on a cosmetic flaw when the unit still works? I would rather hold on to the Ipaq until its 2 years old or broken.

And yes, I have owned refurbs as well. They were fine.

People of course get very passionate about their PDA's and get most upset when there is any damage or marks... much like when you get a new car I guess and it gets its first stone chip!

I am lucky that I have not yet dropped my 4150, but I do have wear marks on the screen that I can see if the unit is off & viewed at an angle. I did try a screen cover for a while but was already used to the screen without a cover.... which looked clearer and the stylus slid more easily... so I decided to run without a protector - and I am still absolutely happy about that decision.

I guess what I am trying to say is that whilst I too would be most annoyed to have a scratch or two on my 4150, it is going to probably happen in the end... and my attitude is that the 4150 is a powerful little warrier, its going to get some battle scars, it;s going to get a lot of use, but as long as it works reliably for a year or two (or three?) until I get a newer model, then I am going to have to accept and live with the odd bruise!

Yeah, don't worry about the exterior! As long as the interior is fine, eg your iPAQ is working properly, it should be alright. It is something you can buy with money so don't worry too much. It's like a car, my 9 months old M3 is full of scratches, stone chips (due to the high speed travelling) and even 2-3 knocks on the front bumper. It doesn't bother me as long as the engine is in good condition and the interior is clean and comfortable. My point is as long as your iPAQ is working properly, there's nothing to worry about! cheers!

Here is my philosophy regarding this:

When you think too much about not dinging or scratching your device, it happens! I too love the new look and when I get one scratch on the device then I get a little upset as well. But realizing in the end that the functionality is still there is what counts. So protecting your device with a good case and screen protectors are very important.
