Viewing avi files on iPaq 4150?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot get to play video avi files shot with a small Canon 400 camera on my new iPaq. I can play the files on my Win XP Professional desktop with Windows Media Player and copy from WMP to an SD card but WMA will not recognise the iPaq to copy nor will the Pocket PC WMP program on th IPaq open the files when I do copy them using a card reader. When I try to open the files I get a message saying the file is not associated with an application which I must first run to open. There is no prompt to open on WMP. Any comments/help?

It's a bummer but WM Player that comes on the Ipaq does not play .avi, you have to install another player to be able to watch this movie. I know of the one below but at 39.95 It's a bit expensive.

I know there are quote a few players out there and some are even free, does anyone else know of a free player that can play .avi's?

I believe Pocket MVP will play AVI files. It is freeware and be found quite easily by using search on this site or Google.

Get Betaplayer it's free and I used PocketDivxEncoder to encode the standard mpeg or avi files to compress them to a small size.

http://beta.topcat.hu/ (for PPC player)
http://divx.ppccool.com/ (for encoder)

The program is PictPocketCinema which I downloaded today on a trial basis - and it works almost flawlessly so I'll buy it. Alomost means that it was impossible to stop playing a file! Maybe someone knows how to stop other than by removing the storage card which I was driven to do.
