ActiveSync Using WLAN AD-HOC and Windows XP
Hi...

Has ne1 managed to activesync using WLAN in AD-Hoc mode to a windows XP PC?

I have tried it but I cannot get it to work.
I am also trying to map to shared drives on the AD-Hoc'ed PC from the ipaq 4150 but it is not working.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi..

I can connect ad-hoc to my xp box and use the internet.

I have to following setup :

WINXP with 2 network cards
100/10 ethernet : 172.30.7.5 (This is the connection going to my gateway PC and then out to the internet, gateway PC is 172.30.7.1)
I also have a USB WIFI card 54MBit 11g with the IP (192.168.0.1)
172.30.7.5 shares its internet connection with the WIFI card.

I can ad-hoc from the IPAQ to the WIFI card and I give the IPAQ the static IP of 192.168.0.2. I can get to the internet with no problems and I can even ftp to my gateway (172.30.7.1).

I cannot get the activesync going from the IPAQ to the ad-hoc'ed PC (192.168.0.1) nor can I map to a shared drive on this XP PC.

IS firewalling enabled on the XP machine?

If you installed vxUtil from http://www.cam.com on the Ipaq, can you ping the actual PC?

Is Active Sync set to allow Ethernet connections on the PC under the connetion settings option?

Hi..

There is no firewall enabled. No internet firewall settings enabled.

With vxutil I can ping 192.168.0.1 (ad-hoc'ed PC) as well as other PCs on my lan like 172.30.7.1.

I also have the "Allow ethernet and RAS.." box ticked in the activesync connection settings.

All seems fine and connected. Somewhere I must be missing something.

PS : DO you have ICQ, it might be quicker to commounicate there..(244650793)

I don't use ICQ. Sorry. Take a look for a program called PocketHosts and create name to IP mapping. So it would be the PC Name as referenced in AS on the PPC with the IP address of the PC.

I can see the PC name now in activesync on the ipaq which I could not see before.
If I now try to sync with the PC then it says on the ipaq that I need to configure a VPN connection. Do you know why this might be? Is it XP refusing the connection somehow?
