How to Run a PC from 4150
I travel from my Business a fair bit and use my Ipaq4150 to pick up e-mails, using either wi-fi Hotspots or a 'Socket' bluetooth modem. Is it possible to run programmes on my PC useing the Ipac or should I ditch it in favour of a nasty, bulky, heavy laptop? Also how do would I get round the screen size issue?
Thanks, in anticipation.

Windows programs will not run on a PPC however some applications have been re-developed as PPC (cut down) versions, you may find one of these meets your requirements.

What type of programs do you intend to use? you already have Pocket Word/Excel/Outlook & IE.

The only way that I can think of that would allow you to run Windows apps on a PPC is to make use of the Terminal Services client running over wifi to connect directly to your desktop PC.

By using terminal services with VPN then you will also be able to access your desktop PC over the Internet from wifo hotspots or dialup.

[Thanks mad4it. I want to run programmes on my office pc from the Ipac. So your right Terminal services would seem to be the right thing. I have a network connected via a hub and an ADSL connection through a d-link DSL-4+. The PC I want to connect to runs XP Home but either I'm thick or stupid but I can't seem to get them to talk. This is the PC the ipac synchronises with.

I have better experience using VNC. Seems to be better to use the bandwith availible and is more easy to set up. Itīs free and you can read more here:
Windows XP (server): http://www.realvnc.com/
Pocket PC(Client): http://www.cs.utah.edu/~midgley/wince/vnc.html

I'm also using VNC.
On the PC I use UltraVNC (server): http://www.ultravnc.com/
I didn't manage to get a connection with realVNC
Pocket PC (client): same as 'Kroger'

Thanks kroger.
Absolutely brilliant. I can't get XP terminal services on XPHome to set up but RealVNC with the special Pocket PC(client) does the job and it is easy. It's a fantastic programme. I had looked at RealVNC before, but didn't come across any PocketPC links, so thanks for that. Jim

Another alternative I've been looking at is logmein.com

They appear to have a vnc-style application that you install on each of the computers you want to remotely access. Whenever you want to access one of the PCs you log on to the website, click the appropriate icon and the connection is set up for you.

I've had great results over a lan, but less satisfying results over an ADSL to ADSL connection (this could be due to saturated bandwidth at one end which wouldn't be logmein's fault). It also claims to allow PPC clients, but I couldn't get it to work over bluetooth - the software would load but the initial screen wouldn't load. Perhaps BT is too slow for it. I'm looking at getting some WLAN stuff shortly, so I'll give it another try then.

The interface makes the whole process much easier to use, and although I was having a couple of problems the system was in beta when I was using it (and at time of writing). I'm hoping it'll be much better when released proper.
