Can't delete files
Hi,

My probs are these, both in word...

1) I can not delete my templates folder, although I have searched and can find nothing in it. No word docs show when I open the folder in word, and no other files show when I open it from My Documents. The Add/Delete function does not give me the delete option in word. It is grayed out. When I try to delete from the File Explorer under My Documents, it says "Cannot remove folder...Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use." I turned off all running programs and the disk is not full (brand new, not much on there), and I have no idea how to see if it's write-protected b/c when I check properties from my PC it does not give me any info on it other than where it resides. I have tried a soft reset to no avail.

2) iPAQ Backup folder in word, same deal but the Delete function is not grayed out under Add/Delete folders option. I just get the same message when I try. It does not show up under My Documents, unlike the Templates folder. When I try to access the iPAQ Backup folder in the word menu it just jumps to the All Folders listing in word.

Phew! What a bugger.

How about renaming the folder, soft reset, then try deleting the renamed folder?

It won't let me rename the templates folder from either My Docs or within the Word folders (grayed out there). It gives the same msg as above when I try it from My Docs on both my PC and PPC.

Rat farts! Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to finally delete the iPAQ backup Word menu folder. Now just the annoying templates folder remains. Like I'm totally locked out of it from altering in any way.

Kottke - welcome to the site

Can I ask why you want to delete it - is it empty of full?

Thanks Rob.

Well, it appears empty. But I want to delete it b/c it serves me no purpose and bumps my word folders into 2 groups so I can't see them all at once. I'm trying to be neat and organized and I'm kinda ticked that I can't just delete the thing.

Don't have Pocket Informant. You recommend?

From my PC: I open My Computer, then Mobile Device, then I have a list of about 25 folders or files (like my Word folders, a couple MS Reader files, etc.) with My Pocket PC at the top of the list. Templates is in that list.

When I open My Pocket PC it lists out 10 folders (Program Files, Databases, Application Data, etc.). One of those is My Documents. When I open up My Documents it is the exact same list as the first one--opening My Computer then Mobile Device--with the exception that My Pocket PC is not on the list this time. But everything else is, including Templates being there again.

Any thoughts?

Do you have "Show system files" truned on - the only thing I can think of is that there must be a file in use.

You could also try to set-up a new partnership (remember to make a copy of the files that you currently have in your MY Documents that you want to have later) and then when it asks if you want to "Retain your Current My Documents - say no (as you will have made a separate copy of the ones you want to keep).

When the new My Documents has been created you can then delete the templates folder.

However, this method seems long winded just to delete an (apparently) emoty folder that doesn't seem to do any harm
