Ipaq 4350 Battery charging ???
I have a question regarding the charging of my Ipaq.
When my battery is under 60% charged it won't take the charge when connected without the cradle to my laptop or to my car charger (the red light will be fleshing really fast). It will take the charge only on the cradle... But when the battery is over 60% no problem ! I can complete the charge in my car or connected to the laptop with the activesinc cable.
Any feed back or help will be very appreciated !

It's been a while but I am not aware of any cable that can charge the 4000 series through USB. I remember a bunch of people returning the sync & charge cables since they did not work. I have never had a red light flashing on my 4350 and I am usually under 30% by the end of the day.

This is it ! I'm using the USB sync & charge cable ... It works well to sync and will only charge if the battery is no less than 60% charged !
The red light flashing only happen when it's less than 60% and connected with the USB sync & carge cable to my laptop or to the adpator on the car cigar lighter outlet ! If the baterry is over 60% then it will charge it up to 100% ! Weird ... The synching always work though ...
So do you always use the craddle when you travel ? There is no other options that you know which will do the job on the road ?

You can check out the Boxwave Sync & Charge, I have never tried it before so I'm not sure if it works well. Try sending an e-mail to their support first. Good Luck.

lespignons,

Just to add to what *allklrnoflr* mentioned, BoxWave offers two sync and charge options for the HP iPAQ 4350. We have both the miniSync (retractable 'sync and charge' cable) and DirectSync (Durable, shielded 'sync and charge' cable) available for the 4350 model.

In addition, both the minSync and DirectSync are compatible with the VersaCharger, Car Charger, Wall Charger, and Battery Adapter for miniSync!

You can check all of these products out and read more about them here: http://www.boxwave.com/products/easy...aq-4350_50.htm.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Cheers,
Cho

This is to do with the power output available from your USB post (nothing on the iPaq) - this will happen with any USB sync cable that you try.

As the battery remaining reduces it requires a higher power draw to recharge - based on this there is a crossover point where not enough power is available to be drawn from the USB port to recharge the battery (and I believe that in fact the opposite occurs and it will actually reduce your battery quicker ).

(I also believe that the latest batch of iPaqs have circuitry to eleviate this issue).

Thank You Rob !

You are right below is the answer from Susanne at Bow Wave, you can't use the miniSync to recharge your Ipaq with a low battery ... Real shame when you are on the road ... It still good if you are using your Ipaq on long trip with a GPS, at least it won't die on you ! Thank you all for your help !

The HP iPAQ 4355 is notorious for being a power hungry unit. The limitation
of the miniSync's ability to charge is the amount of power put out by the
USB port. The miniSync will charge your unit, but by trickle charge and not
when the battery is very low. This is because when the battery is low, not
only is the amount of charge less, but the power of the charge is reduced,
therefore the HP iPAQ 4355 will draw supplemental power from USB to support
itself, leaving none left over to charge the battery.
Some customers don't mind charging with their unit completely off and some
others opt to purchase a wall charger or car charger to get a full strength
charge for their unit.undefined

The car charger won't help but may be the wall charger ... Eric

4350 Charging
I keep a few sync-n-charge cables, 2 by Belkin, which can only sync or only charge via a switch, 1 retractable cable and 1 standard cable. With any of them, I have a wall charger that accepts a USB cable, and have no trouble keeping my iPaq charged at home, at work, or traveling. You can find the wall adapters many places, including ebay. This also works with a car adapter with a USB slot.

I also have an HP (by Belkin, I think, but with the HP brand) 9volt battery charger and a 4AA battery charger which travel with me as well, in the event that I am away from an outlet.

That being said, I do occasionally have trouble if I am attempting to charge only from a USB cable attached to my computer. The cradle, with it's own power supply can always do the job however. A USB hub with a power supply should also be able to do the job.

Hope this helps!

I have an HP wall charger that I keep with me in my laptop case (along with a variety of other cables/chargers). I am constantly running my battery down below 50% and the wall charger has always worked fine for me while on the road. I was lucky enough to have asked another IPAQ user who recomended against the usb/charger cable. Yes, I now have to carry two seperate cables, but I really find that I am charging more and waiting to synch once I return home. Maybe not the answer to everyone, but it works for me.

The charge/sync cable from HP will charge my 4155 from the car receptacle but it takes at least four hours if the 4155 is less than 60%. The light on the IPAQ will flash faster than normal but eventually it stops flashing and the battery is fully charged. Make sure the red/green LED on the switch on the cable is showing red in order for it to charge when pluged into the car receptacle .
