upgrading OS in 4150?
Help appreciated!

I'm having problems running Garmin's software on my ipaq. I want to install the new software for my unit.

How do I do it?

I've already backed up my unit.

I have been to the hp ipaq site. While it seems straightforward, there is a caution that bothers me.

The way I read it, they advise against using my old contacts, notes and calendar. These items are the only reason I bought my ipaq!

Do appreciate your help!

dlynch,

With proper backup, you should be able to preserve all your contact/notes/calendar.

In the most unfortunately events, do as follows:

1. Connect Ipaq to PC, sync
2. Disconnect ipaq
3. Backup the Outlook file to a pst file

4. Backup the Pocket PC except the emails/personal databases

5. Connect Ipaq to PC and install the garmin software

This way, if you happen to mess up with the pocket pc, do a hard reset and restore the file from 4, then rebuild the partnership to sync back your Contacts/etc..

Good luck.

Thanks S'Paul. What's a pst file?

My wife had a suggestion that I should have 2 synch's...one on even days and one on odd days. Then if I ever clobber my saved data I have a backup that's a day (or so) old.

But I don't know how to do that!

Dave,

.pst file is the personal folder file for Outlook.

I normally back my outlook file up to another .pst file to keep it safe so that I can restore it if the outlook file I use to sync is corrupted or I change my laptop (less often).

If you want to follow what you wife has suggested, I'm not sure whether this suggestion will work for one Ipaq to sync with 2 accounts on one XP computers. Other post on the forum has outlined how to achieve syncing 2 ipaqs on one XP computer.

So you might want to dig a bit to check this out. Meanwhile I will try to see whether this will work on mine.

Good luck to you.

Hitman69,

You can't upgrade 4150 to WM2003SE, as HP decided to discontinue 4150 from last August and will not offer any OS upgrade to it.

Shame.

well, i made this tutorial in the utilities an softeware sub forum but it doesn't seem anyone cared lol.

i know i explained underclocking, but in the same program, overclocking is self explanatory.

http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21726

oh, and the program i mentioned in that thread goes up to 472mhz. but i used hack master to achieve higher results in spb. hack master goes up to like 593 er something but i found that 531mhz scored the highest after i tried all the higher ones.
