So 4150 owners, how's your pda running?
i still haven't upgraded my 4150. i've actually recently thought about getting a dell axim x51v as it'd have the new OS, graphics, new CPU, VGA, etc., but i guess i can hold off. i mean really, why should i upgrade? i can switch LCD orientation, overclock to over 500MHz, play games, watch movies, etc., everything that the dell can do. so, i've decided to just not buy one until my baby dies

it's three years old, i bought it right when it came out for $450 and it's still running great. never had to send it in/contact hp, never had to do a hard reset except when I wanted to. the screen is the same as when i bought it. wifi/bt work fine. i mean, hell, this thing is still running all the games i throw at it and play it at high settings!

so, how is your 4150 running ?

i still think it was gay that we didn't get the OS upgrade to WM2003SE but hey look, there's another OS out there!

Except for a few cracks in the case (caused no doubt by overplaying Crystal Caliburn) my 4150 is still running well, so well that I am loathe to replace it.

After buying it in July 2004 along with a Belkin wireless keyboard abd later a Lexas 512 MB SD card I have these following thoughts about this device after two years of daily usage.

Best Programs I Downloaded for it:
1. DotPocket
2. Microsoft Reader
3. Crystal Caliburn
4. Spb Pocket Plus

Best Accessories:
1. Rhino-skin case
2. Belkin Wireless keyboard
3. SD cards

Other than upgrading the bios to update to ROM to 1.10.03 ENG I haven't really done anything else. I've tried quite a few programs and came to the conclusion that for my purposes most of them weren't that useful.

My IPAQ is used primarily to keep appointments, make notes, read LIT books (Dick Francis is my favorite author) and play a few games. Due to the screen size I don't like to surf the web or watch videos with it, evne though it is quite capable in those tasks.

The one accessory I bought that I regretted was the HP Thumb keyboard, it brought home quickly why I had avoided the 4350 model orginally.

Still haven't seen anything that would make it worth my while to replace the PDA. The new ultraportables are too bulky and if I need that capability, I have my notebook.

Probably because I don't want or need a phone or camera bundled with my PDA I see no reason to upgrade. Of course when the next generation (the 4700 series was too bulky) is released thoughts may change or worse, my case may crack beyond usability. Otherwise, I'm hanging on to my IPAQ 4150 as long as possible.

I've had my 4150 for just on three years now and it has spent all of its working life in a Propporta aluminium case. The 4150 itself is 100% as original, not a mark on it. I have not bothered with screen protectors, as these often get in my way in terms of sensitivity and ease of use (i.e. no false hits). The 4150 is in use every single day of the week, including Sundays. I depend on it 100% for my calendaring and scheduling of work. I simply could not manage a working day without it - so it has served me well so far with just the occasional reset required.

Rarerly has an electronic item served me so well. Congratulations HP on a job well done.

I bought mine back in October off of Ebay and still love it. It was my first foray into PPC from Palm. Love the size as I carry it everywhere with me. Hope mine lasts as long as 3 years. Probably will trade up sometime though as I am becoming a gadget freak.

My 4150 is going just fine, thank you very much.
Having got used to the size, I can't see myself upgrading to anything that isn't equally as compact, and of course with appropriate increase in functionality to justify a change.

Mine is running fine. The only thing I wish it had was a VGA screen. Can't see upgrading though as it has been a solid device.

Same thing here.
I am using it at home, at the office, in the car and while flying a plane as a GPS unit...

Still goin' strong!!!
After over two years of faithful service, I dropped my unit and had to have the LED and Touchscreen repaired ( ) I sent it to the guys at Pocket PC Techs, and in no time at all, I am back in service!!! They really did a good job, and it was a lot less expensive than buying a new unit (that I don't need).

Like most of you, I've not seen or laid hands on any of the newer model PDAs that warrant an upgrade. I've got a handful of third party programs that enable me to be truly mobile when I'm away from my computer.

Now I'm interested in this "overclocking" stuff some of you have discussed. Wasn't aware these units could do it...

4150 runs very well
Bought it off EBAY a couple years ago. Use it for scheduling, use an Excel pilot logbook I designed and have my entire logbook in there. Now I'm a diabetic and have another small spreadsheet I designed to calculate insulin requirements and to store a very handy calorie/carb/fat content food book I found. Only had one problem with it; I was giving flight instruction and was at 12,500 feet, unpressurized, when the lcd screen blew up. The HP guy said it was within the warranty period. But when they got it it, they unilaterally decided that I broke it somehow. $200+ later I'm back in business. Sure would like the graphics capability of the Dell though, particularly in Excel...

hey guys, been a few months since i've been here. just glad that everybody's ipaq is running great still.

mine's still going strong. i've been using it for music alot lately. i plan on buying either a 1GB or a 2GB SD card to upgrade from my 512MB. it's getting too small.

4355 still running strong, nothing on the ,market makes me want to move. I prefer to keep my PDA separate from my phone, so it will take a complete meltdown to get this out of my hands.

hi.
just thought i'd give my own experience of this great little device.

i've had mine for just over two years and it has hardly given me any problems. touch wood.

i use my device a lot for practically everything and it generally does everything well.

checking email/ surfing the internet via nokia 6230 using mobileleap/skweezer.
listening to mp3s.
watching an occasional movie with betaplayer.
reading medical/other texts/documents with isilo/acrobat reader.
satellite navigation using mapopolis and holux gpslim.
storing contacts and keeping important notes.
playing the odd game when i get bored.

overall, this device has served me really well. i can't imagine life without a pocketpc and i'm a complete convert. my family/work colleagues are probably sick of me enthusing about the merits of these devices and i'm often amazed that they fail to share this enthusiasm. they just don't get it for some reason. i'm sure others here on the site have had the same experience.

however, i will say i have noticed recently that my device shuts off more frequently than usual for no obvious reason which can be annoying. i don't know if this is just the battery getting old or if it's a hardware issue but i suppose it can't last forever.

like other posters here, i haven't been overly impressed by the relative bulk of the newer ppc-phone devices but i'm going to have to upgrade sometime i suppose to one of these.

yeah, i really wish there would be more regular pocket pcs to choose from today. all the options we had a few years ago, gone. microsoft is developing a new mobile CE according to PPC magazine so that should reveal some new devices.

Bought mine right at a year ago and have learned a lot since then. I still love the size and seem to learn something new every day about this little beauty. I would like to know where to go to answer simple questions about the PPC. Such as why won't it hold block lettering for input, keeps wanting to go to keyboard no matter how many times I change it, changing it in settings does not seem to work.

It seems to be plenty fast, don't need to soft reset very often.

I think some of the programs I got are so flexible and have so many options that it seems to take forever to figure out why something stopped working the way it used to. That is very frustrating for me. I probably tried too many programs before I learned the initial ones.

Anyway I am very happy with my "second brain" and hope it works for years to come.

I had many adventures with my 4150 and even had to repair it by myself as you can see and read here:
http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/i...pair-help.html
I must admit that i am a really hardcore pda user and i used my pda almost every single day since i have it
I have 5 spare batteries for my pda, the extended battery, an emergency aa-battery charger kit for the 4150 an in addition to my docking station i have a car charger and a traver charging kit
*g*
i know, i know
maaaniac
but hey! i just like it

With enough aa-batteries(20-32) i am able to use my pda almost 24/7 for as long as 2-3 weeks without docking to a charger

Currently i am using a 4gb sd card because my experiment with a 8gb sdhc card didnt work out as you can read here:
http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/i...-problems.html

The best accesories i have for my 4150 and i recommend for everyone who wants to seriously use his pda are:

- aluminium case (saved the life of my pda gozillions of times)
- SanDisk SDCard (SD) Ultra II Plus usb(thats my extra sd-card/usb-stick combo i use to exchange data between my pda and pcs i only can acces with an usb-stick its really priceless sometimes)
- stowaway bluetooth keyboard (with softmaker office on your pda you dont need to carry aroud a laptop anymore i you just want to do some word processing or browsing)
- gps mouse (for someone with such a crappy orientation in urban areas ist a must

Software which i use heavily:
- ubook (perfect ebook reader)
- tomeraider (for accesing my wikipedia
- avant go (since i use it i do not buy any newspapers...)
-tomtom navigator (helps keeping me on track
- softmaker office (a REAL wordprocessor for pocket pc)
-pgcc (c/c++ compiler for pda lets me experiment while im on my way)
- cedit (source code editor)
- tcpmp (best videoplayer ever and 4free!)
- opera browser (the best browser for pocket pcs)
ok ok i sotop right now
there are millions of other small apps i have on my pda but these listed are the most heavily used which i really recommend

as you can read in my last post linked in the second link in this post i finally decided to go for a vga device because i really needthe extra resolution for my heavy text editing
combined with the stowaway bluetooth keyboard i now have enough of a pc to replace my laptop in most situations so i rarely have to carry an extra bag
So you see the 4150 is a really priceless companion but sometimes a device which has it all in one can be even more useful
its really a shame that hp didnt produce any good pda since the 4150... :/

if you guys have any questions on extreme usage of you pda just ask me
