SD-Card (SDHC) 8GB works without problems?

Hi folks!

I am looking forward to replace my 4gb card with the
Transcend Secure Digital Card (SDHC) Class 2 8192MB (TS8GSDHC)
Welcome to Transcend Website - Secure Digital High-Capacity(SDHC) Class 2

As i know the only difference between sd and sdhc ist the fat32 format of the file system.
This shoulnd't be a problem because i already use fat32 on my 4gb card.

Has anybody tested 8gb sd cards in an ipaq (preferably a 4150 ;) ???

I wolud like to be 100% sure before buying because its nothing that hurries...
I just want the 8GB one because i'm a lazy ass and dont want to recompress my movies before putting them on my pda ;P

Thx for reading and do no hesitate to answer

Greetings

ZonK

PS.: i have my 4150 for 3 years now but its still going strong!
mkay it had 3 coffe baths until now but thats no problem because its easy to disassemble and dry ;)

Have you tried it?

I have been watching your post looking for replies, but I guess no one has. I was just curious if you had purchased and tried the 8 GB yet.

Thanks,
Don

thanx for reminding me about my post!

now i have a chance to commit something to our community :D

I have bought and tested this card in my Ipaq 4150, an axim x51v, 3 different mulöti card readers, a brand new sd-card reader from sandisk, and every single sd-compatible device i could find.
Unfortunately this card does not work in any sd-card compatible hardware...
The hardware has to be especially designed to support SDHC because as my investigations after the purchase revealed sdhc cards do nat have a controller integrated but have to be managed by a controller integrated in the actual device using it...
so this means that you cannot use sdhc cards in any current reader/pda unless its secifically designed to support sdhc(afaik there are only several dslr cameras supporting it).

Sorry for the bad news :/
but its better you and other get to know it this way than like me after the purchase(damn i was so greedy for more storage :P )
luckily i got my money rewfunded so in the end it was a good lession for me ;)

btw.
today i have switched from my beloved 4150 to a brand new fujitsu siemens n560
so the 4150 is my secondary device now as long as i get over with it and decide to sell it
damn iv'e spent over 1000€ for this litte bugger and all the accessories :D

unfortunately during the 3 years there was no real improvment on the market and the n560 is the only well sized and converged device which made it easier to turn my back on the 4150
but to be honest i use ma pda like a laptop since i have a bletooth keyboard and a vga screen is a must for word processing and coding on a pda...
i also was very interested in the usb-host functionality so i would be able to access hard disks with my pda...
an integrated gps was also a thing i definitely need because i am a heavy gps user an hate to be without my reciever when i need it...

well its sad but i finally had to give up a parfectly designed and small device with a damn nice touch&feel for a feature packed behemoth

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience with this. You have helped me and perhaps others from making an expensive error.

Re: SDHC in iPAQ

[QUOTE=ZonKnoZ;164337]Hi folks!

Only? There are address differences too, maybe more. Sure wish HP would release a driver so we can use SDHC, but none appears forthcoming. Guess I'll have to continue juggling my half dozen 4 and 2 gig regular SD cards.

PS: My h4150 has a busted earphone socket, so I bought an rx1950 (very similar). How'd you open yours, some kind of special torx-type screwdriver? Or, did you only open the battery cover?

As you can read in my post above, SDHC isnt just a software change but also a host side controller change which requres sdhc compatible hardware.

well for now i am fine with my new usb host capable pda and an 8GB usb stick
:D

an instruction of how to open and fix your 4150 is here(done by me, so if you have any specific questions just post 'em here)

I've put there some pictures which will hopefully answer most of your questions ;)

Huge thanks for the stereo jack fix instructions, especially the good pics. As for the SDHC issue, HTC's firmware patch apparently works. See, for example, here...
Amazon.com: Transcend 4GB Mini SDHC Card: Electronics

I've also read of a ROM upgrade for Treo 650, making SDHC work, and this Treo has the WM5 operating system, like later iPAQ (e.g. rx1950). So there's still hope for a driver to make iPAQ accept SDHC, right?

I have Dell Axim x51V & I now for a fact that the SDHC cards are not
compatible. the problem has been well documented over at the Axim site. You guys are correct, it is something hardware related. I have all my cards formatted for FAT 32.
