Corrupted start menu on 4150

Somehow my drop-down start menu on my 4150 got corrupted. Going to start/settings/menus I find that there are a couple of duplicate program icons. Only one check box is checked on each of the two duplicates. When I try to uncheck one of the boxes or enter a check in the emply duplicate box I get an alert saying "Unable to move that Item."

When I try to uninstall one of the programs with a duplicate listing using start/settings/system/remove programs I get the alert "Uninstall unsuccessful." I suppose I need use file explorer to go to my windows folder to remove the program, but that's a little scarey for me. Please tell me what to do.

Thanx.........Lance

First thing to do is to back the device up using Activesync and then try a soft reset.

Oftentimes, a soft reset will fix such problems. However, if it doesn't use the AS Explorer option on your pc (with the device connected!) to look for duplicate icons in the device start up menu. If there are duplicates, they can be deleted safely without uninstalling the program.

If that doesn't work (and when you have backed up the device) try a hard reset and then restore the unit.

If that is unsuccessful, try a hard reset and install the programs one-by-one (with a soft reset between each install) and see how that works.

Make sure that you have a current backup before you attempt any of the above, that allows you to get back to where you are in the event that anything is unsuccessful.

Good luck

Fixed

OK, here's what I did for the fix. Going through ActiveSync on my desktop PC I removed the problem icons from the windows/start folder. Then I went to start/settings/menus on my Pocket PC. The duplicate program icons no longer appeared and I checked the appropriate boxe. All is well.
