Weird file names. Corrupt Need help

I have a bunch of file names in the My Device directory. Some have a little squire next to the icon and some just have one letter or weird symbols next to the icons. I also have not been able to sync my 4700 and think that my system has some how become corrupt.
I am running Windows Mob 5.
I would just reload WM5 but can’t get ActiveSync to work. If I go into ActiveSync and go to connections the connections drop down that had USB and other choices all have a ‘ symbol in front of them ('USB).
Any help would be great.

Which ROM version are you using? I had this same problem a couple of times with the original WM5 ROM (2.0), but no problem with this issue since I started using the 2.01 ROM

Normally found under the System Information option.
  1. Start Menu
  2. Settings
  3. System (tab)
  4. System Information
Your ROM version should be listed here. As for fixing it; it largely depends on whether you are running the latest version. Your device provider will supply updates via their website.

However, a word of warning; ROM updates can be problematic! Try a hard reset first.

It looks like I have ROM version 2.00.39 and Windows CE 5.1
The biggest problem that I have right now is activesync. It says that it is connected but will not sync. I can explore the mobile device but can’t add files to my Iraq. If I had use of activesync I could reload Windows 5 to fix my corrupt files.

As I recall, I had to do a clean reset to wipe everything out, in order to get around the weird/corrupt file problem. I could Active Sync, at least one of the times. I discovered the problem while doing a backup. Nothing could read or touch these corrupt files.

Once you get things reset, if you want to keep WM5, I would recommend upgrading to the 2.01 ROM. I have not had this problem and overall performance is much better than 2.00.xx

Good luck!

You shouldn't need AS to repair the files if they are Windows components: buckyg is correct (below) is right a hard (clean) reset will restore Windows to the factory condition (or the last ROM update condition).

Insofar as AS is concerned:
  1. Has your firewall been changed or updated?
  2. Are you connecting to AS as a Guest or with your normal partnership?
  3. Has your device or pc been reset making the Regional Settings are out of sync?
