Better w/ WM2003?
Hi there,

I am just curious what people think of the 54xx after upgrading to WM2003. There seemed to be a lot of people upset with this machine before WM2003 and then the later iPAQs. Maybe this should be a poll but I'm more curious what people have to say instead of yea or nay.

I like it much better. I know WM2003 was mostly an "under the hood" change. But it really helped this iPAQ, IMHO.

It does seem to be faster and more responsive.

The new OS and maybe HP something HP tweaked seemed to permanently take care of the "insufficient memory" problem when I tried to turn on wi-fi. There was a PPC2002 ROM upgrade that helped, but I still had the problem afterwards.

Just my thoughts...

Best regards,
buckyg

I'm with you - the upgrade was certainly worth it. I don't see much of a performance difference, but the new connection management is terrific.

Well, it's a hit and miss for me.

The miss:
1. The iPAQ WLAN Icon (looks like 3/4 fan) disappear. I used to use this to quickly change profiles, but alas, not anymore.

2. Connection manager: still needs improvement. For me, I need to have VPN connection just like in desktop where I can: a). dial in to the internet and then b). dial-in to the VPN server. WM2003 still requires users to go to IE and try to enter a local server address so that the VPN connection will kicks in.

I'm overall happy w/ the upgrade however I do agree about missing the wlan icon.

I also hate the new bug w/ the finger print reader. It asks for a swipe every time you turn it on now, no matter what delay time you set it for. I had to turn off the reader b/c of that. Once they fix that though, all will be well.

I am new to PDA. Yeh I find the WiFi on WM2003 with zero configuration very confusing. I couldn't get on the net at hotspots because I couldn't configure whereas on PPC2002 I could. hmmm maybe I do not know how to...

I don't have the fingerprint problem. Mine works fine.

I was wondering what happened to the 3/4 fan for WLAN. That kinda sucks.

I bought mine with 2003, so I can't comment on the speed. But I can say my 5450 is faster than my old Ax 400.

I recently upgraded to WM2003 and love it. I don't have the problems mentioned about the fingerprint reader, mine works fine. Connection speed is great and the PDA overall is faster (opening programs, applications, etc.) Definitely think the cost is worth it.

The signal strength meter for the WLAN is still there; you just have to tap on the two-way arrows when you're connected and a very tiny green meter will appear. Yes, it's lame, but it is still there.

As for WM, I'm glad I did the upgrade. It was pretty painless and while I haven't noticed better performance, I really like the improvements to PIE.
