Wireless Help
I recently received my iPaq 5555 and I love it. The only problem I am having is that I am unable to go online or connect to email if the unit is not in the cradle and connected to my laptop. I know I must be missing something obvious.

If I am not connected to the laptop, the wireless signal is still recongized and strong, but I keep getting the error "The page you are looking for cannot be found"

I am running a server which hosts two web sites, but also have my laptop which is wireless and works fine. Please help. So far my wireless handheld can only go about 3 ft from my laptop.

Thank you.

This setting works for me:

Goto Settings -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks
Make sure that My Work Network is selected for both.
Then go the the My Work Network settings and make sure that "This network connects to the Internet" is checked under the Proxy Settings tab.

Thank you. I tried what you said and at first it did not work. I took another step and turned off WEP and it is up and running. Someday when I have time, I will try to get the connection working with WEP enabled.

I knew it would be something simple that I was just missing.

Great news!

Now I just have to get my WEP encryption up and running.

Do that soon!!! Even 64-bit encryption is better than none at all! It's a simple process.

1) Disable SHARED key authentication (shared key is VERY insecure. Open system, believe it or not, is much more secure, since you're not broadcasting an authentication key in the clear.)

2) enable WEP on the AP and choose a WEP key (depending on vendor, you may be able to enter the WEP key as ascii. Otherwise, you'll have to enter it in hex. There are lots of ascii-hex conversion pages on the web, just do a google search for ascii-hex conversion

3) Turn on the wi-fi adapter on the iPAQ and wait for it to discover your WEP network. When the dialogue comes up for the network, alter the wep settings to match what you entered in the AP.

Cheers,
-Pat

Thanks for the info. Already had WEP configured but had to disable it for some troubleshooting. Got it up and running now.

Same here. Once I disabled WEP to get evertyhing running, I was able to go back and enable it again.
