iPAQ 55XX Series Poll

Who thinks that iPAQ will disable the 5XXX series lineup? I think they could because they seem to have the new 41XX series and the rumours of the 6XXX series.

My friend has a new iPAQ 5555 and its still pretty big.

Given the amount of 36xx, 38xx, 39xx, 54xx, and 55xx series, not to mention all the Expansion jacket options currently available, I'll say not too soon.

It will happen, but it'll take same time.

Plus (not that I would know this personally), apparently corporations love these things. They buy one expansion pack and it works through the next many, many models of the device it's intended for.

Personally, I've hardly had an expansion pack on my 5550 since I got it as it has built-in wifi and a storage card slot, the two things I got expansion packs for on my 3670. Plus, the 5550 has BT as well!

I believe this form factor iPAQ will continue for awhile, regardless of what number series they give it. First the 54xx, then the 55xx have been referred to by HP as business/enterprise machines. That's a reason given why they took out Consumer Infra-Red/Nevo from the 55xx: Why would a business need that? (Yeah, I know, that's a whole other discussion)

Corporations do love it, at least mine does. They don't have to re-invest in new sleeves or accessories.

That's also why I bought a 5555. Well, that and the 128 MB memory. The 4xxx came out right after but it wasn't enough for me to switch.

I love my 5550. I had Palms for about 5 years. They do have their advantages, but the IPAQ is great. The memory is truely remarkable.

My 5555 rocks. About the only thing they could improve would be the connector between the unit and the cradle. It's a PITA getting the Ipaq docked sometimes, and it feels like something is going to snap off if you don't get it lined up right.

The Palm cradle was superior in this respect -- it just had a copper contact that was much easier to fit into the dock.

I hope it won't get discontinued for I just got it about half a year ago. Besides from what I read if HP finally decides to release their already due WM3003SE rom update that should leave one hell of a good PDA with a remarkable OS to kick about for a while. It has BT, WiFi, decent default memory. The new 6000 series adds on phone and a camera(for a certain model) but cuts down on the memory. it really is a trade off. but so far, i think it remains a good reliable pda.
