IR strength
Has anyone used the 5555 as a remote using PDAwin or a similar app? I have used PDAwin and the 5555 seems to get really good range for not being a consumer IR. My couch is about 7 feet from the front of my television. I'm guessing that when I am sitting and holding the Ipaq I'm about 8 ft away. I have had no problems controlling the television and stereo system so far. Anyone else having this kind of luck?

I was under the impression that the 5555 did NOT have IR built into it? Am I wrong? I tried to use one of the shareware IR programs and got no response from my tv.

And you need the Consumer IR to control TVs etc, like the iPAQ 2215.

That's not entirely true. You can use the Ipaq 5555 to control your tv, vcr, dvd player, and stereo. The 5555 has IR built in as do all Ipaqs. The 5555 does not have a Consumer grade IR. This means that the 5555 can not transmit over a long distance. The IR is the same in both irda and the Consumer IR. The only difference is the strength. I have successfully used PDAwin to control my tv, dvd player, and stereo. The limitation seems to be between 8 and 10 feet for my 5555. Where as a 2215 could be about 20 feet or so away. I'm curious to see if anyone else has tried this with their 5555 and the distance that they can get. Usually a regular IR can only get 3-5 feet. I'm just surprised that the 5555 can reach 8 to 10 feet without a consumer grade IR.

PDAwin.....I had bad results. Could not learn some of my equipment....basically I am only able to change channels up and down (not by pressing numbers) and it has VOLUME UP but no VOL DOWN....go figure.

I have given up on a good remote control app for my h5555.
