Will 5550 Be GSM Cell Phone
I consider myself to be a little PDA knowledgeable, but at a loss for being able to locate software. Everything on the 5550 points to it having the ability to be a Smartphone. There is space for a SIM card under the battery, the microphone is in the right place, and the so is the ear piece (speaker). Is there software out there that will allow me to convert my 5550 into a usable cellphone? Please let me know if it is available, or if someone know of a site that is up on current developement. Not concerned about service plans, just software.

Thanks.

DPA,
My understanding is that the SIM slots on the 5xxx series are not enabled. Seems like at one point, there were plans for like a 56xx series that would have phone capabilites instead of or in addition to wifi. This comes from my recollections of forum discussions on other sites.

You might search Brighthand.com or Pocketpcthoughts.com forums, I believe there were some related discussions there.
Best regards,

There was a lot of discussion on it at Brighthand about the 5455. The conclusion was always that the SIM slot is non-functional and will not be used.

Here is a discussion thread on Brighthand regarding a possible future use of the Sim slot on the 5000 series.
