5-way Button
My 5-way button stopped working for no reason yesterday. I let it recharge completely and I reset it once, with still no improvement. I can't find a setting for it in "Buttons" and there are no other problems. Any ideas?

What can I do if I can't fix it myself?

I just noticed my Calander and Inbox buttons don't work anymore either.

This happened to me once when I tried to use dotPocket to change my resolution. The resolution changed but when it did a soft reset, none of my hardware buttons worked. I had no recourse but to do a hard reset and restore my data. That did the trick for me. I decided to leave well enough alone regarding dotPocket and now I am not using the resolution function of it anymore.

I know it's a bit of a "newb" question, but how is a hard reset different than just pressing the reset button at the bottom of the unit. I'd check my owners manual, but it's stowed away with the rest of the paperwork. I'll check the online manual real quick.

Just pressing the reset button on the back is called a soft reset. It is equivalent to rebooting a PC. A Hard reset puts your PPC back to factory defaults. Any data that is in RAM is erased. It is equivalent formatting the C drive and reinstalling the operating system from the recovery disk that came from the vendor.

To hard reset the 5555, you need to hold down both the left-most and right-most application buttons and press the "soft reset" button with your stylus until the screen disappears.

Okay.

But if my left most hardware button isn't responding, then this isn't possible.

Now what?

The only thing I could think of is to remove the battery until the backup battery resets. But that is only going to be of any help if you don't mind losing your info, or you have it backed up somewhere else.

Yeah, I was using the HP Active Chat Customer Service and that's what they told me. I had to go to work, but I'm gonna try that now to see if it helps.

That should fit your needs quite nicely. When the unit looses power to the main and backup batteries the RAM will get wiped and things will go back to factory default settings.
