HP 5555 Phone Chip
Have anyone inserted a phone chip into the HP 5555 yet and see what happens? Is it connected? Does it functions? Does the HP 5555 detects a phone chip when installed? I can't insert one in to my HP 5555 until my warranty runs out. There's a sticker over the chip slot stating "Void Warranty When Removed".

I am also interested having just purcahsed a 5455. The microphone and speaker are in the perfect place, and the antenna makes it look like a phone (even though thats for wireless reception, who says it can't also be for a cell phone?). More likely someone has tried it on a 5455 because it is a year older model than the 5555 meaning the warranty has already run out.

The chip slot could be there so that if hp were to make an expansion pack adding some sort of cell phone functionality to the iPAQ, you could put in an existing chip. Either way, helpwould be greatly appreciated.

I remember seeing a compact flash card that had a slot for a SIM card and you could turn your PPC into a phone. This was not to long ago so maybe someone else knows about this or has possibly used it? I do not believe that the SIM card can be used at this time.

I have seen the same card but I can't remember where I saw it. I will post when I find it; unless someone else finds it first.

This has been discussed to quite an extent since the h5450/h5550 was introduced. The consensus? Unfortunately, it's simply a dummy slot with nothing connected to it.

Dang it! Why did HP put the Dummy Slot in the first place? Oh well, I guess I got a place to store my spare SIM cards ;-)

Question still stands.... can someone say they actually inserted the SIM in it?

Hmm. That sucks, we'll just have to see if HP releases any accessories to make it capable of being used, or if yuo can send it in to them for wiring to a SIM chip. Hmmm..this could get interesting.

There is no gsm chipset in the ipaq there is no chance of it being a phone. I opened my ipaq up I couldnt find anything relevant to gsm communications
