Soft Reset ---- How often
Hi All ---

I have a new 5555 and have found that it seems to be locking up what (to me) seems to be a lot. As a result, I am having to do a soft reset a couple times a day. It seems to happen primarily when the WiFi is on.

How often are other 5555 owners have to do a soft reset and is anyone experiencing or have experienced similar issues.

Thanks for any and all replies.

Same here I have to reset at least once during a 2 hour Wifi session... As I noted in another tread, I also had to perform a hard reboot after I installed the latest WIFI update I installed from the HP site because I was getting a very weak (one bar) signal even when holding my 5555 inches away from the wireless router's antenna. The hard reboot solved that problem.

I have been told that the update wifi drivers is supposed to fix some of those issues. I have also heard that some have had issues installing it though. I don't have a 5500 iPaq so I cannot say whether the drivers work or not.

I've had the same problem (locking up randomly when I use WiFi) but I couldn't get the new WiFi update to load. I kept getting a message that the drivers were already in use

I always soft reset - It just seems to make my device faster and clears out the memory. It doesnt hurt, and it is so fast and easy. I havent soft reset in a while actually.

I dont have a 5555, a 2215 though

I normally do not have to soft reset, unless I have just installed something that needs it. I do every few days just to clean up memory. But once in a great while, I get a random lockup or slowdown.

Wifi seems to work okay for me with the new drivers. I did have to do the "pop the battery" trick to get Wifi to work right after the update. Had to do it on my wife's 5455 too. Otherwise, no problems on either machine.

Search the forums on ppcthoughts.com or brighthand.com about the install problem some folks have had with installing the latest Wifi update. Seems like people are able to rename the driver and get it to install? But please check out those other forums to get details instead of relying on my sometimes faulty memory.

Best of luck,
