Ipaq BT query

I am using a software that communicates with bluetooth via my Ipaq5550 to my T68i phone. The problem I have is that if I do not set the Bluetooth serial on before using the software, the situation will be is that once connected it will ask if what serial port of the bluetooth device do I want to use. Selecting either com1 or com2 would just say can not connect, but if I activate the serial bluetooth before using the software then it works... Any idea?
