Hi justbecause - welcome to the site

You have a number of issues here.

Is your iPaq currently working? as you say it won't get past the boot-up screen - until you/ we can get it working there is little point in trying to answer the other questions.

Okay so you have your ipaq working

Let's try and get the cradle working now.

As you are in a 'clean' position on your iPaq we should start AS from a clean position.

I would recommend uninstalling activesync - Control panel> add/ remove programs and uninstall Activesync

Then go to C:\program files\ and delete the Activesync directory.

Unplug the cradle.

Go into Control Panel>System>Device Manager> and remove any entries with a yellow question mark.

Reboot your PC

Perform a soft reset of your iPaq

Install Activesync and follow the instructions.

Plug-in the cradle (without the PPC in it) - let windows find the new hardware

When on the blank Desktop place your iPaq in the cradle and follow the wizard.

Also do you have another USB port on your PC (do not use a hub) that you can try it on?

Hope this helps.

When you get usb device not recognized it is one of two problems. Either active sync is improperly installed, or you have a bad button board (board inside ipaq that has the connector, these seem to go bad easily if you are not careful with the connector)
