Advice on iPAQ5500

Hi everyone, my first post here - I'm getting a 3 year old, used iPAQ for 50 dollars from a friend. It comes with an extended battery pack, extra CDs, 250MB Compact Flash Card and 64MB Secure Digital Card. It seems to be in a good condition, she's not used it for a couple of years now.

Would you say it's a good buy? What should I know about this PDA before I buy it?

possibly one of the best pocket pcs ever made. i still own my 5555 and its awsome.

one thing to mention. the backup battery will more than likely need to be replaced, which involves taking the device apart a little. just so you know what youre getting into. its not brain surgery, just wanted to throw that out there.

you may also want to consider a replacement battery if its coming with the original. theyre a bit pricey, but if your going to use it, its going to need new batteries.

Thanks for your reply jdigitL - appreciate it. Would I be able to watch movies in this one? What software could I use for audio / video? Any idea where I can download some free PDA software that will run on this PDA?

ok ok calm down...

do some searching here on the forums and just take it all in slowly as theres a lot of softwares out there.

as far as video, i personally use core player, or sling player to connect to my slingbox

theres tons of free softwares out there, just sift through pocetpcfreeware and forum sites like this one and xda developers etc for clues and ideas

You may want to upgrade the size of your memory cards to store movies on. The cards that came with it sound like they are at least 3 years old.

You can get up to a 4gb sd card, as long as its not sdhc.

You are pretty much unlimited when it comes to cf cards. If your going to watch movies, my advice is to get a large cf card. I have an 8gb for my axim, but nowadays you can get a 16gb one pretty cheaply and they even make 32gb ones.
