High Capacity Battery for 610

Just to let you know that we will be releasing a 3000mAH extended capacity battery for this device soon. I've got my device and battery and I've been playing around with it some. It is such a cool machine. I really like the thumb wheel. Makes me think about the iPOD. In any case, the high capacity battery will be available for mid-February.

Just so you'll know.

Mark :)

Hi Mark,

I am quite curious..how did you got your hands into that lovely device? I have been searching high and low and even found a prelim. user manual on the FCC site, but neither the Danish (i am from Denmark) iPAQ manager or the HP tech support could help me with any release date

Also I would like if you could reveal more about how to work with the thump wheel..or with the phone in all..do you have any pros or cons?

please please PLEASE share....

Thanks a million.

OK, So I use a 610. Yes. It is very cool. Since we develop batteries with HP we get "Engineering Samples" for our development. That is how come we have had the 110, 210, 510 & 610 for some time now. (My 610 is not an Engineering Sample but a pre-production model. The 610 I sent to the factory was an Engineering Sample.)

As for the thumb wheel, it is like having an iPOD. It takes a little getting used to.

Other than that, it is a nice device. Smaller than my HW6900. Not great for those who may be used to the Blackberry or texting alot. There is no keypad.

Hi Mark,

Thank U for the explanation :)

Though I do not understand what you mean by the missing keypad. Do you mean the missing QWERTY keyboard? As far as I can see there is the 12 key keypad for texting (T9), which can be used for one-hand...(just what I am after)

Please explain...

You're right it does have that. My HW6900 had a QWERTY keyboard and I became use to it. That is what I was referring to.

peeeewww Mark, you really scared me off...but I am glad that it got the 12 key keypad

A couple of other things that I hope you can help me with (I know I am asking for much but I am just so curious...please bear with me :o )

Display: How big is it. I know it is 2,8" and 240x320 (or something like that) but what is the size in length and width (please by cm if possible. I am not so good at inch...we don't use that here in Denmark :)

Thump wheel: I know it can scroll up and down, but what about left and right? For example if I use it in the calender..how does it work there?

Also I know that it can be turned off by pressing the OK button for a while, but do you think it is convenient to use? and also how do you press for "action" I could understand that it is done by the "return" key, but is that correct?

and the last thing: Thank you for your quick reply and for helping out my curiosity :approve:

The screen is noticeably smaller than I would have liked. I'm used to my HW6900 so 3" screen is small to me.

The thumb wheel only allows up and down. I cannot get it to move a cursor or bring the date to another day of the week. It causes the weeks to change, not the days.

There is a power button right on the bottom right hand part of the screen that if you hold it long enough (about 5 seconds) causes a complete shut down of the device. It does ask if you wish to shut down or not and you have to accept it before it shuts down.

I hope that some of this info is useful!
