HP iPaq 610 not to be offered to US
Recieved an email from HP this morning. Here's what it said:

"You recently registered via HP's website to be notified when the HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator is available to purchase.

We appreciate your interest in this product. However, due to recent legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies, HP has decided not to offer the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator to U.S. customers as previously planned.

Please consider other HP products that may meet your needs and at significant discounts!"

I'm not sure what the legal issues could be, but it seems that we in the US won't be seeing this. I wonder 1) where in the world it will be sold, and 2) what their definition of significant discounts is?

BAD BAD NEWS- been waiting 6 months !
I started mobile with a bag phone and an original Palm (actually a couple pre-Palm pDA's like Casio Boss no one remembers). Been looking for the perfect converged device ever since- never found it due to keyboard issues, missing features, buggy software, and/or poor performance- thought this was going to be the one !

Key features:
1) simple phone 10 key pad- HATE qwerty or touch screen for dialing phone numbers! Want it to be a good phone 1st, PDA input can be via touch screen and/or slide out qwerty, but don't screw up my phone function with other stuff!
2) touch screen & aGPS- could do some hand notetaking, some GPS browsing, and use a stylus qwerty when needed- perfect. (can also probably add a touch interface at some time like htc-touch, LG-touch, or iPhone- just wait for someone to offer winMobile shell add-on). just make it easy to lock/unlock touch so my ear doesnt launch a thousand apps via touch screen while I am talking !
3) powerful processor and lots of built-in mem plus expansion (liked my old iMate 5, but the little TI850 200mhz not enough (but if thee retraction was due to Qualcom legal stuff , were there going to be qualcom type performance issues on this 500mhz processor ?)
4) 3g/wifi/bluetooth- can't believe the number of somewhat interesting phones missing 3g or something, this one wasn't !

Alternatives? what is/where is an ipaq 612/614?
hey- looks like UK sites are getting a similar model to the 610 called a 614, and the original release info had mentioned a 612. I can't find any info doing comparisons- I am guessing these may be same model with dif Language or power. Anyone know if the version 614 in UK has any issues if purchased there and shipped to my home for US (slip my AT&T/Cingular Sim into it?).

I can't do asian language pack (if thats what a 612 is), but think I could handle UK english. Can't imagine power issues if not using an AC charger (just plug mini-usb into pc for charge/synch like I do my 8525?).

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I wouldn't worry too much. The 614 is a nice piece of kit from a hardware point of view but the firmware sucks big time. I sent mine back.
