I received the 910c that I won here last week. Great device!
There have been a lot of posts on the hp forums, but not much here, so I figured I'd start posting some things good and not so good about it.
I've slowly been loading programs that I have previously been running on my Dell X51v, some programs work great, others, not too many won't work, probably because they were not written for WM 6.1.
Anyway, the biggest downer is battery drain. I charged to 100% last night, made sure all background applications. were off, just left the phone on, 12 hours later, 72% batt. life left. I'm going to try a few more changes to the setting to see what happens.
3G is a bigger battery hog. Unless you plan to use a data connection for heavy duty surfing, it's really not necessary to keep it going all the time. You've probably seen the lengthy thread on HP forums about this issue.
You can turn off the 3G connection by tapping Start > Settings > Personal tab > Phone icon > Band Switch tab > select GSM only

I thought I had set it that way, but it looks like it was turned on without my realizing it. I'll see how much the phone draws down the battery without it on.
Ok, tried it again with GSM only, and after 12 hours, again only 72% batt. left.
An hour ago I tried shutting the 910 down by holding the off/on button a few seconds for complete shut down. Turned it back on, phone started working, put it in standby, and in an hours time no noticeable batt. drain, maybe 1%.
Yesterday, I had 33% batt. life left after 24 hours.
I think there is some glitch in shutting 3G off, when I select GSM only, click apply, it all turns grayed out and doesn't seem to really do anything.
I'll let everyone know if this worked, after 24-hours.
Everything seems normal now. Battery drain with the phone off is about the same as the Axim, with the phone on standby, it loses about 4% every 12 hours. Great phone/pda!

Thanks for reporting your findings about the battery. I have not performed such a diligent study of the battery life as you have done here, but your findings confirm what I believed about the battery life and 3G.

I tried 3G a little again today, and noticed it draining the battery again.
Well, when I set it back to GSM only, I hit apply and waited a while. After a while, couple of minutes, it finally come back with the dark black dot on GSM and the Apply button is dark again, not greyed out like before. However, tried to close the phone setting and it wouldn't close, no matter what I did, took a soft reset to close it. I've got tMan running on the Ipaq and that wouldn't close it either. Seems to be some kind of glitch in the software for the phone settings.
Well, I don't plan on using 3G much anyway, so I won't have to worry about fast battery drain because of it.

I bought my 910c from Rogers two weeks ago, and it doesn't seem to have a "Band Switch" tab available. Under the Settings > Phone, I see the following tabs:
Phone
Security
Services
Network
TTY
PIN2
AOC
More
I checked them all out and couldn't find anything relating to GSM. Any suggestions?
To note, my version info according to HP Asset Viewer is as follows:
Product Revision Level: 1.0
ROM Date: Oct142008
ROM Revision: MP-1.20.07
OS Version: 6.1
Bootloader Version: MP-1.20.07
XIP Version: 1.0.0.0
if you don’t need 3g network then as suggested it is good 4 your health (lower radiation) and battery life to switch to 2G network
the normal way is by entering your phone/option/band
but you can also go phone/option/network then select manual
from the list tap on the gsm 2g net (but this option is not good if you constantly sw networks)
if you need to download/upload files then switch to 3G
if you don’t use pushmail then I recommend you go programs/activesync/menu/add server
now fill in the fields with gust dummy words and make a dummy server (unmark the sync option)
After doing so go on activesync to menu/timetable/ and select manual (it will be "as item arrive ")
now exit AS and close this task
if you use pushmail then I recommend of working with pullmail that will check your email every "X" minutes
(you can set it X=5min if you want to get fast mail or x=60min if it is not important, you can also set different timing during the day)
good luck

Could this be as easy as changing some registry entries on the device? Install a registry editor on your device like PHMRegEdit and check the registry entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\
Please post what you find there (or post a screenshot)

OK, here are the values under HKLM\Security\Phone:
Code:
(Default)
(value not set)
Features
0x18 (24)
L
0x0 (0)
ManualDisable
0x0 (0)
MSNLookupURL
search.msn.com/local/...
PBLookupMinPhoneNumberLength
0x8 (8)
SupressFlightModePrompt
0x1 (1)
I tried setting the "ManualDisable" setting to 1 but it would revert back to "0" as soon as I closed the registry editor (never had that happen before). So the setting wouldn't take.

The ManualDisable key seems to be the problem. On my IPAQ 910c the setting is "1" (all other settings there match yours). Now....how to change that key so it sticks?.....not really sure.
