Using GPS - Worked great!

I just wanted to report using the onboard gps on the 910c.

I went on a trip down to Florida (looking for work) last week for 9 days.

When I landed in Orlando, I started the GPS in the rental car, using some old Dell gps software from my old Dell Axim x51v on the HP ipaq 910c. It took a couple of minutes to lock, of course this would be normal to any gps, since I flew down from Massachusetts. After that, any time I used it it would lock on within a minute.

I also used it with an auto power adapter by iGO, you need a power adapter if using the GPS for extended periods, otherwise you will totally drain out the battery.

I also used some gps software by Memory-Map (Memory-Map: GPS Mapping Software for PC and Windows Mobile), for my photography trips on the weekends. I downladed some Tiff files from the USGS, they were aerial photo's of areas I planned to be in. I do wildlife photography as a hobby, and I wanted to use the aerial photo's to find paths to use while out in remote areas. It worked great, I could make out groups of palm trees on the maps so I could tell where I was on the ground.

Just wanted to let everyone know that it works great.

On a side note, I don't use the keyboard at all, if the 910c didn't have the keyboard or had a bigger full size screen with an on screen keyboard, I'd be a very happy person.

The only other thing I wanted to mention, the speaker is muffled when you lay the 910c on the passenger seat, unless you flip it upside down. I didn't bring a dash mount with me, so I used it this way when driving the streets. I didn't need to see the map while driving, I just listened to the directions.

That's great! I have an IPAQ 910c and have used the GPS a little, but I have not installed any of my GPS software on it. I had wondered how well the GPS software would display on the screen, since the screen is not standard.

I could live without the keyboard too. I think the keys are really too small and slippery for my tastes and would much prefer a larger screen size.

Hi Julie,

Yes, a larger screen would be a definite plus, I miss the screen on my Dell Axim.

Although the screen is small, the GPS mapping looks really good and sharp. I can see the streets well from where I have the 910c mounted on a car vent, can't read the street names without reading glasses though, getting older and need reading glasses for fine print now! But for those who don't need glasses, the text is sharp.
