TI Processor Compatible with apps?
Looks like the 6300 series is shipping with the Texas Instruments 1510 dual core 168 MHz processor. Does anyone know if this will be compatible with the ARM and XScale apps that are out there?

The TI OMAP is based on the ARM architecture, as all Pocket PCs have to be. Microsoft has made that a requirement since Pocket PC 2002.

Whether every application will run is another issue. For example, I don't know if some of the XScale overclocking programs would work. I do think most regular software will.

I have experience with the OMAP processor from the Tungsten E. It will run anything that the XScale 400 chip on my C can and is quite zippy for it's apparently slow speed. However it is very difficult to overclock. The current crop of overclockers will not work on the device so expect a wave of app updates to support the new chip.

For an example see Lightspeed, an over/under clocking app for PalmOS. They had to create a new version (2.0) just for the OMAP chips and it has been in beta for nearly six months. I tested an early beta of the app on my E and found it had small stability issues and underclocking the unit caused serious screen flicker problems.

For now, assume the device will not be able to be over/underclocked.
